Hello all!!!
I'm Katie I'm 19 and have just got my first corn after YEARS of wanting one. He/She is called Boo is 10-11 months old! Her cage was dirty when i got her took me ages to get her out and give it a quick clean. Shes VERY flinchy VERY reluctant to be handled. Hoping this is something that will pass with time. Some advice will be useful .
Thanks All!
Katie

It is indeed I've been informed its an amel crossed with a snow coral - the owner insisted she hadn't got the time for him but has also just acquired a new puppy. This little guy was digging around in his own faeces and is very very jumpy. Was fed on Saturday but feel sorry for the little guy! Want to give him the best start possible.. need to get a thermometer too as she didnt have one and had no clue about temperatures etc. She'd had him from a hatchling but yeah- some advice on his handling and when placing him in another container to feed how to place him back as shes given me a tiny little tub that he feeds in and he just seems far too big for it :/ I dont know

There is the usual 5 day wait after acquiring a new snake to let them settle in. I use a gallon size plastic tube with little airs for most of mine around the same age. I almost always cover the feeding container. They usually settle down quite a bit after you start to handle them. I saw a craiglist ad and the seller said they had no time for the snake. If you have no time for a snake, you have no time for anything else. Sounds like she never bonded to her snake. Puppies take up gobs and gobs of time.
I honestly don't know if they hear us speak, but I always speak to mine. Every snake I have has settled in nicely except for Mia who bites me regularly. She is still small though. Charisma has turned puppy dog tame. As far as I am concerned she has a halo on her sweet little head.
I never pick mine up after feeding. I just tilt the container over and they crawl out on their own. I don't dump them, they go on their own.

What a cute little guy/gal! My baby aztec (first corn!) is coming tomorrow morning, the delivery is scheduled for 10:30 am and I'm just FREAKING OUT WITH EXCITEMENT! It is super cool that you chose to rescue a snake, I'd like to rescue one sometime later after I get the hang of things. Where did the name Boo come from? Mario? Monsters Inc?

Congrats on the rescue. Just give her time to settle in to her now clean tank in her new home and let her calm down :)

With regards to the feeding tub - mine is much younger than yours so currently in a well-cleaned takeaway container but I've got some larger tupperware boxes with holes in the lids (no sharp edges) for when he gets bigger. Like Myca I just put the tub back into the tank on a tilt after feeding and let him make his own way out :)

Thanks guys! Really glad shes a rescue always been a sucker for helping those in need. Fingers crossed she'll do just fine. Your advice has been great the feeding tub I was given is TINY so we'll see about a new one :) Your advice is much appreciated! JessKeen- Good luck with your little one! its very exciting- Im in my proud mummy stages my fiance isnt in the good books right now I'm always like 'LEAVE MY BABY ALONE' hehehe!

For sure give the new guy a week to settle into the clean viv. If the previous owner had no idea about temperatures, they probably didn't have a UTH with a thermostat either. IME a snake kept with the proper temp gradient is much calmer and easier to handle.

Just a regular heatmat I asked about temp monitoring i just had 'never had a problem' he likes burrowing etc. Love the guy to pieces but feel WAY out of my depth just want to get things right for him now. He's mostly hiding right now so might be worth me getting something to check the temp...
