Eggs Not Hatching

Bug22baby

Snakes and more Snakes
Well I thought they would be done and hatched by now. Its been 78 days and nothing except now I believe another one just hit the hay cause its all deformed looking. To make it worse my roomate is trying sabatoge me and keeps messing with my thrmostat when Im gone so I think they died or arent gonna make it. Does anyone think there is still hope, whats the longest they will go before hatching or should I just toss them and assume it as a loss??

Thanks
Amanda

I had 2 this year hatch at 88 and 90 days so all hope is not lost BUT your roomate is probably killing them by messing with the temps. That makes me feel extremely angry and sad that someone can be so stupid and cruel.....

Ya tell me about it I have to have all my snakes out of here by this weekend because she reported them to the landlord and they are gonna charge me $250 dollars per snake in fines if they arent gone. She sucks Im waiting for my lease to get up so I can get the hell out of here. But for now I have 1 egg that looks like it still can possibly make it but given shes touched the thermostat more than once There probley not alive :(

Thanks

aww man that suks. if i were u and if it were possible i would move my snake to a room were i can lock or something. and if your lease doesnt say no pets they shouldnt fine you. and that no pets thing only applies to thing not held in a tank i think. because they cant stop you from having a fish so why a snake. your room mate is a b****.

how much of a fluctuation in temps do you think occurred in the incubator? And how often. It is my understanding a little flux now and then wont do harm to an egg.

Well Its happened twice now and its gotten into the low 70's. The eggs that are left are changing color one is shriveling the other is still plump but I dunno anymore they just look sad :shrugs:

Ya well there is a catch with my lease. The first year I lived here with my roomate who at the time was my best friend, there was nothing saying you could not have a reptile/fish. Well I resigned my lease for another year and I was told the lease was the same well I just skimmed over it and didnt read into detail the second time and they changed it where it now says no reptile fish or any other pet unless approves by landlord. Well since now Im NOT friends with my roomate because of her extreme issues, shes reporting Bullcrap stuff and I cant put a lock on my door either or my landlord claims they will charge me $250 for that. I dunno I just cant wait to get the heck out.

awww that suks, well can u keep them after the fine? well best of luck to the same happen to me my neibors told my land lord a had a big snake in the house( 14 inches lol) and that it mite crwl up the stairs and stangle the baby( sure a 14 inche snake can stangle a walking baby). i was so pist so im helping my mom look for new apartments so we can get the hell out.lol and i got the snake as a birth day gift from big sis. :santa:

I'm sorry for your situation, Bug. I'd say the plump egg still has hope, I don't know about the shriveled one but sometimes they do dent inwards just before hatching.
That roommate sounds awful, even if you two don't get along she has no right to mess with or even touch your stuff.

Well Im trying to sell 9 of them and keep 4. One is staying at my BF's and the others will be brought back and kept locked up when Im not around. Im converting my big rack. Basically so its smallar and has a locking door on the front to look more like a cabinet/storage. The landlord has the right to come in whenever but does not have the right to go through my personal belongings. So hopefully they wont even notice that there here and I already know where Im living and pets are allowed!!

Bug,

Your landlord does not the the right to enter your apartment whenever she wants.

By law she must post an intent to enter at least 24 hours prior to her entering your home. The only time your landlord has the right to enter your apartment, with out posting an intent to enter notice, is if there is an emergency and the building is in immediate danger of damage ie., broken water pipe, flooding, an upstairs apartment or your apartment is leaking water, or a fire.

If there is nothing in your lease about reptiles legaly your landlord would have to put an addendum on your lease notifying you of the change to your lease and any addtional charges/deposits, otherwise it would hold up in court of law. She would then have to explain this to you and also have you sign it to prove that you were made aware of the new changes.

If you feel that you are being harassed, discriminated against, or treated unfairly there are organizations that protect the rights of renters. Look in the phone book under state, county or city agencies and you should find one.

I tend to agree with psychodad, you need to get a hold of someone that works at the county level or State level to discuss these issues, to bad you don't have someone close to you that you can trust enough with your critters, I don't have the money eithier to help you out. Your going to get tossed out or move from the apt any ways, I think you might best make it tough on the landlord, and get the authorities involed ( the ones that deal with Landlord tenant issues ) because it sounds like there are threats being made which you should not and don't have to tolerate. I have issues with people getting screwed around, just ask my Laywer.. :grin01:

Regards..

I'm not so sure on the landlord giving notice issue. Where I am at, the two towns of Champaign and Urbana are pretty much conjoined and are one big city. But, I'm fairly certain that in one city the landlord does have to give 24 hour notice, but in the other notice is not required. I believe it all depends on the local laws, and is not the same everywhere. :shrugs:

you should slip some Nair into your roommates' shampoo :grin01: or wouldn't it be something if SOMEHOW bleach got poured into her laundry :grin01:

Thanks Guys,
In my lease it states that they have a "Pass Key" allowing them access to the property at any time for inspection purposes. It does state that a proper notification will be given unless there is an emergency. But all the snakes are out. Put them at my parents until I can find homes for 9 of them. Im keeping 4 of them still so they cant find me. In the mean time I cant Nair her shampoo or bleach the cloths lol... Would LOVE to, but I dont like my stuff messed with and wont mess with hers, I believe in respect. Hopefully the last egg will hatch one of them is looking not to bad, not the best but not awful either. I just wont let anyone know if it does hatch lol... not hard to hide a hatchling and no one ever said having frozen mice in your freezer was against the rules, maybe I just enjoy rodent popsicles.

Thanks
Amanda

Don't give up on the eggs. Mine hatched at around 76 days and my dad's first clutch hatched at around 90 days (as did his second - we had three Halloween babies). As for the whole landlord thing - try going to your landlord that you have your snakes at your parents house and would like to be able to have them with you and see if they'll approve it. Also be prepared to show that they're not there at the time. Worst that happens is they say no and you're right where you are now. I know that technically my landlord has the right to enter our place any time. I think it's the whole being in college and people not trusting you. I do think that some landlords are just shady but I know this guy (he rents 90% of the town) and his leases are seriously stringent and I believe it's because it's a college town. Heck - we can have a fire in the fireplace or even burn a candle for that matter. Good luck.

Hrm... from what I understand if the landlord stated that the lease had not changed, when in fact it had.. the lease is voided under law of verbal contract breech =) AKA, you can leave any time. You'd be amazed how important verbal contracts are... ask my ex fiance (who knew a proposal was a contract?) I agree that you should talk to a rental board of some sort and point out the change in the lease without due notification!

As for room mates... yeah.... yuck. I lived with one of my BFs and he turned out to be an @$$, kept me locked in the appartment all the time.. then the landlord heard we were moving ($3000 a month for oil is just stupid!) and ran in with a loaded shotgun!! Had the cops there for 15 hours while we moved out ~,~ Got the new place and I kicked my BF's lazy butt to the curb! (Having a 7'1" tall 350 lb friend back you up is wonderful hehe)

Well some good news.... My egg is now safe and sound from roomate disaster! Hopefully the one egg left hatches. My landlord inspected my room and found no snakes and allowed me to put a lock on my door (against the lease prior) therefore now the room is locked and the egg is safely incubated now!!

As for the roomate well yes roomates suck big time.... The main problem I have is mine has turned into an alcholic, causing disagreements when it comes to just about anything. On top of that shes one of them people who live a double life.... One person in real life than another on the internet...Crazy, guess thats what happens when your not satisfied with your own life. Anyhow Thanks for all the support!

Oh and I still have snakes! The landlord just doesnt know about them neither does the roomate. There not gonna get rid of my favorite little guys that easy!!
