Eggs - our first breeding.

Everyone puts out great information again. Some interesting reads, I understand the time and financial constraints that breeding puts on an individual, I breed Bearded Dragons and this season we went through 60 hatchlings and so we know what is involved.

I was hoping for detailed info about corns such as how long the eggs should be in the incubator, what temps are ideal - are there temp ranges that produce different sexes - what type of incubators do other people use, what things good or bad should we watch for over the next few weeks both with the eggs and our Sadie.

You should give Sadie a good feel for retained eggs/slugs. I believe corn eggs incubate for around 60 days give or take with temps around 80-82ish. I know a lot of people use moist spagnum moss to prevent drying and make their own incubation tubs lined with it. I am sure someone will chime in and be more specific:)
 
ReptiGirl, Kathy Love's book has all that info nicely explained! I haven't bred (yet) but when I read thru that section it was easy to understand & follow. I would check that out.
 
Don Soderburg's book, I find, actually has a much more indepth breeding section that Kathy's... I'd still recommend both, but Kathy's is more of a general owner's guide and Don's is some general stuff but the bulk of the book is how to breed.
 
Could any one post the names and the ISBN numbers of the books, I know that's alot to ask, but they may be difficult to find in Canada.

Oh and we got 14 eggs - Sadie is back to her cranky, cage aggressive self (a little more because she is shedding) - but looks like everything is good. My only concern is she hasn't eaten yet.

Is it because she's going to shed?

Any of the major chain petstores in your area should carry either of those two books.
 
I have to admit that I have skimmed briefly through this post, but would like to make a comment.
How many times do we have to reopen a post so to speak? eg. I can remember this post originating if memory serves me correct way back when I was a totally ignoramus newbie on the Forum. Since then this post seems to surface every few months or so. The FAQ section is there for a reason. No wonder some of the older hands tend to almost brush off this post and seem abrupt about it. After all, how many times must a certain topic be answered.

I salute the originator's quest for advice and knowledge, however, there are ways of doing this without raising hackles.

There has also been numerous questions asked and answered in connection with breeding, gestation, incubation etc. , just use the tools provided by the Mods. These tools are there not only to make things easier for us but also to save aggravation.

Its normal for the female not to eat until she has her post lay shed. Then a very small meal for a few feedings before working her back up to a normal size meal. Make sure she has access to clean water daily....

And if you do a search on google for the books you should get plenty of hits where to get them....
 
Rolandslf - Don't you think I searched before I posted, I didn't come across the answers I was looking for. Yes I will agree my first post was little vague and I have received a large selection of answers some helpful and some not, yours included. So if you don't actually have anything helpful to add, I would appreciate no comment at all. Thanks

Hi everyone,
So it has been awhile since I posted last and I finally have an update for you.
We have continuously monitored this clutch of eggs and yesterday they started to pip.
I'm so excited, we have 2 out now and 7 more piped, with 3 more waiting.
I will have pics as soon as I get my camera loaded onto my new comp.

now onto raising hatchlings :D
 
I set my camera down last night and can't remember where i put it...I was too excited...oh and a 3rd one is out this morning...
