Emoryi rat snake vs caramel corn snake

some emoryi ratsnakes and caramel corn snakes look so similar to me that I'm having a hard time figuring out the difference. I have what I figured to be a caramel corn snake after posting pictures and getting id help but something just seems different about little havoc to me. His eyes definitely have a differnt look to them than myother corns. I'm not very experienced when it comes to corn snake genetics and I was just wondering if there were any sure signs to spot the difference between the two or know if it is a hybrid. Thank you so much!

They look very different to the trained eye, look at what a corn snake looks like and what defines its looks and then look at the other species you will see many differences from size, shape, pattern and scales

sorry I had to move to my computer to get this picture to upload

I know havocs pattern looks like a caramel but his face/eyes just seem different to me. But like I said I don't know much on the matter and it could just be me seeing it wrong! haha. Thank you again for your replies

As with any morph, there is a wide variety seen in caramels, their eyes included. Your caramel shows the typical yellow in the ground color, which is lacking in all the examples of Emoryi rat snake hatchlings you showed. You also need to consider how much hatchlings change in phenotype just from one shed to the next. You can't compare a 2 month old caramel to a 4 month old to an 8 month old.

The 1st two photos are of an almost 1 yr old caramel and caramel Upper Keys phase.

The last 3 photos are sibling caramels after their first sheds.

Thanks for the info! I know it probably seems like a stupid question but I'm just interested in making sure I know all about my snakes :)

In the wild a true corn do not have more blotches on its back than 38, but look and count at this caramel corn. I count it to 40 blotches.

The fact is that most cornsnakes in captivity have some few percentage of genes from emoryi.
There are intergrades even in the wild.

Sometimes you can get "throwbacks" when you breed corns, "throwbacks" that look more like an far away emoryi ancestor than the corn parents.
