ETB - Emerald Tree Boa

torsten

Too many yet too few!!!
Hi all,

i have always been fascinated by the green arboreal snakes but much prefer the looks of the ETB to the GTPs, I don't know why the appeal to me more but they do!

I am considering getting one and was wondering if anyone wanted to comment on whether they feel i can deal with one, i personally feel that i could. I am not too bothered at the thought of being bitten although i know they have pretty impressive teeth!! Would it be better to purchase an Adult rather than a hatchling?

I know that co-habitation is bad so i assume that is the same for ETBs? i have seen a pair of adult ETBs up for sale and was considering them, they are an 05 CF unrelated pair.

I was wondering if anyone here owns them or has owned them? (feel free to post pictures of yours!!)

If anyone has any bite pictures i would be interested.

What sort of prices should hatchlings be and how much for adults?

Thanks
Torsten

It's one of those I'd still be nervous about getting. It'd be strictly a "look, but don't touch" if I got an adult. If I got a baby, I'd try and make sure to handle it frequently to curb the "need to bite" attitude.

Just take another look at these teeth!

I'd probably go with a GTP. They can be a bit smaller than ETB's.

Yikes! Those are some humongous teeth!
How on earth do they close their mouths with teeth that huge??

Veeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyyy carefully. LOL. Just a note, that picture is not mine, but I did get it from a google search, and borrowed it from a photobucket account.

Certainly impressive teeth!!! :D

How long do they get on average?

Anyone on here keep them?

I definitely prefer the ETBs to the GTPs although i know i am going to get a GTP at some stage.

I am not gonna get one of those any time in the distant future! I saw one at a show from a sleezy breeder and it was MAD. Also handling them can cause kinks from what I have heard. They are delicate

ETB's and Biak locality GTP's are pretty much the same... generally speaking. You have to be on your toes and be ready to accept the fact that some will simply not calm down- and as such they will be purely a display animal.
Actually, even if it is tame, I advise against taking it more than you absolutely must.
Also... try and handle one. To get an idea... I can tell you straight man, they are more annoying to move, and handling them is very different and IMHO far less enjoyable.

All in all though, it comes down to taste.

Good luck

I believe this is more relevant to Chondros, Hatchlings particularly... (I may be wrong though :D)

Thanks for all the advice, i would like to get one but i doubt i will for a couple of years, as much as anything it depends on where this pair mention above are and how much he wants for them.
