Example of What's Wrong with America

With a 400% trade surplus with the US and nationally defended by the US and UK the whole country of Canada is basically on "assistance". Tough to wean that level of dependency so defending it and a socialist/Marxist world view become second nature. :shrugs:

Personally, I can't see a real good reason for any country's military to be on a foreign shore anywhere, for any reason. Not unless there is an active war going on that directly affects the borders of the country that owns the military force.

Heck, what business is it of ours what other countries want to do between themselves? Someone might want another country's military mite to smite another at no cost to themselves? Why in the world would WE get into the middle of something like that? Might be at least a partial explanation of why the USA is MANY trillions of dollars in debt right now. Spent far too much money sticking OUR noses in other people's business.

Really, when is the last time your military pulled us out of anything? We were in a Combat role in Afghanistan, our Navy is still in the Persian Gulf and we are still supplying troops to Peacekeeping missions. Who is this threat you are saving us from? Give me a break!! For that matter, I did not know the UK was defending our borders.

I am sure many brave Canadians have served well and deserve thanks. I truly thank them for their service. That said one would be self deceiving to think that being a US/UK ally was not the reason Canada doesn't speak Japanese or German or Russian. And also the biggest reason nobody would approach Canada today. You even fly US jets in defense of Canada. :shrugs: Defense doesn't mean literally US/UK troops standing armed protecting your border.

Sure you have earned the right to shape your own country, who argued that?

Good points Rich. With today's quick deployment capabilities we don't need all of those foreign bases. And we shouldn't go unless asked by an ally for help.

We do waste too much money overseas. When I was in the USAF we were closing down Zweibrucken base. The SOFA agreement (contract with host nation) always favored the host. They were schelduled to build like 8 new buildings before the decision to close. Those buildings were being built as the base was being closed. They were never used by the US. I am sure Germany liked the new buildings.

Many of our MRAPS trucks used in country today are actually built in Canada... So, we use Canadian trucks to protect our soldiers overseas....

I want to apologize to our Canadian members. As Nova pointed out perhaps my post was a bit demeaning. I am sorry.
