Extreme Makeover Home (DUW)

So I just read an article online today that the home they chose for makeover was selected, nearby. Article stated they were starting "later" this month, so me and my mom decided to do a drive by to see what house it was, didn't know they had started already. They had the street all blocked off when we got there and we saw the bus so we went to a side street and walked up to the house and I had my camera so I took some video and pictures. Later we found out they were only letting the neighbors be so close, so somehow we got lucky and made it through the barrier along with a couple other people...everyone else was held back at the corners of the street.

A video I took of the family getting ready to leave (going to Disney World), and some of the crew goofing around

The House: (they are apparently building a 3,000-4,000 square foot house on this tiny lot.)

Here's a better pic I found of the family, they were surprised at the Neenah Farmer's Market this morning.

The neighbors seemed really nice, and let us invade their yard. The poor old lady living at the brown house with the big 766 address had to leave for an appointment or something and had quite the maze to get through with her car.

Thats so cool! I've never watched a whole show but I bet it must be a blessing for the family who gets the makeover.

I think the idea of the show is awesome. I nominated a close friend who fosters terminally ill children and it's a major undertaking just to go through the nomination process. They want SO much information on the family and a video of the property, the people, etc. If there are nasty neighbors or other issues, the show won't deal with it. So truly worthy families are left out, like my friend, who is as deserving, if not more than some of these other families, of a new home with the kind of modern facilities for the medical needs of the fosters. It kinda chafes, to be honest.

Also, unfortunately several of these families have lost these huge new homes because of the sudden, drastic increase in property taxes, utility bills and the show doesn't always pay off the first mortgage, either. A local family went through this. So while I applaud the idea of helping others, the reality is flawed.

Cool pics, though.
