And once again...
Freedom of Choice! Nobody is forcing anyone to go anywhere or do anything. Make the choice for yourself and then this discussion falls back on what I said in the beginning... COMPLETLY POINTLESS.
I agree that trying to tell anyone else where they can/can't post or trying to convince Rich to do one thing or another on this issue is pointless. But that's not what this thread is, at least for me. I'm glad to have heard Rich's POV on the whole thing, and to present another perspective on things. That's not pointless to me.

Ok, is there anyone else on this thread that I haven't disagreed with yet? :grin01:

I think posting more corn stuff on Fauna will, if anything, draw users from other forums that are just bored, maybe nothing new in their own "personal" forum so they say "why not", and browse a different forum. I know I've been into the leo room looking at pics lately, and the renewed efforts of mods in the slower snake forums has really been in evidence. CS has always been a core group of diehards and will continue to grow; by posting new, cutting edge stuff every so often on Fauna that we see alot more than most folks, it becomes like a "gateway" site to this one...maybe???...lol...

also I've met both the mods from the corn and rat forums...Ron (Norsmis) is a real good guy, very enthused, totally ready to jump back into the hobby after serving 15 years in the Army and getting ready to start anew in IN...We stood in an elementary school parking lot in VA on cold sunday talking snakes for a few hours...Stephanie (blckkt) lives about 5 miles from me, and is also very enthusiastic about corns and other herps...

Should one be closed over the other....heck, I don't know.

I think, however, that as the internet becomes more and more an integral part of more peoples lives we will see specialization. Not everyone has a computer. Not everyone is into the on-line thing yet. But it will continue to increase. More people will come looking for pet related information and reptiles will be included. When this happens I think we will see more specialized sites like Cornsnakes.com. There are already dedicated sites to many of the other species of reptiles as well as numerous generalized sites.

I think the small time hobbyist or pet owner will have no problem going to big blanket sites looking for information. However, as one specializes I think they will start to seek out the specific community on their animal of choice. I do and I am sure I'm not alone. Chances are if you are reading this thread you are an avid cornsnake lover...not a reticulated python lover that just happens to be on this site. However, if this post was on Fauna...you might be an iguana person curious about cornsnakes.

As the owner of the sites, Rich has the need to get people to either of his sites as well as both of this sites. By merely clicking around on either site you can see his name around which promotes his business. More importantly, though, he has people pay for advertising on his sites. So, more clicks and eyes seeing the content will mean more likelihood of clicking on an advertisers link and buying that product. Increased revenue from the products will increase advertising on Rich's site and thus will keep him from going out of pocket with his internet related expenses.

So, should Fauna be shut down.....heck, I still don't know. What I do know is I like it here and if I am looking for cornsnake related info or want to talk about cornsnakes my posts will be here. This is a species I heavily work with and this is the specialized site for it. Now, if I was getting into ringneck snakes...I probably would go to fauna.... :shrugs:

or maybe the ringneck forums? :shrugs: :sidestep:
