Capone's On His Way

I am getting him from Frank Panitello of ColdbloodedNovelties. He has a brother nearly a twin but has a different type of head markings. I just liked Capone's a :dancer:little bit more. His tank's all ready and I plan at 7am to be camped by my front door (he's not supposed to arrive till 10:30 am but I am not taking any chances) waiting to jump the poor fedex guy! He's eventually for the two Okeetes girls but He might make some nice babies with Golden too when she is old enough. But no pressure on the little bloke. It's going to be peace and quiet for a bit and I am trying to psyche myself into not being too tempted to start taking pics right away.

I am guessing by now you have them all separated, no? Last season was crazy for males and females alike, so the importance of not stressing them out is high. I don't know if you read this, but it will really explain how dire it is not to cohab. Even if you are aware of the risks, why chance a really horrible death or stressed snakes that could be prevented?

This is one thing I am passionate about, as well as providing UTHs instead of lamps. My two "pet" peeves!

Your new beastie looks awesome! Wait a week, then you can get the best pics when he is chilled out and settled it. I can't wait to see him!

Separate us!

The okeetee females are together for their 7th year. When I thought they were male and female I tried separating them but they got more stressed out with them looking for each other. I thought this meant they would breed when I put them back together. No they just curled up together like usual. Now I know they are both girls and have been together since they were wee babes (sisters actually) ever since the the previous owner bought them. He bought them as male and female and never knew. The other two that share a big tank are both females too. Everybody eats seperately in feed tanks. The new little male has his own smaller tank waiting for him and he should be fine in that for the next few months and then he'll have his own exo terra bachelor pad. I like to keep them in the 24"x18"x24" exos. They have lots of dens, on different levels as well as climbing stuff. And coconut chips, orchid chips and plantation soil mixed with moss to dig in. It's pretty dry here in AZ and they don't do well on just aspen bedding. The slightly damp soil mixture seems to agree with them and they all love making tunnels in it. I find when they poop it's real easy just to grab the mess with a paper towel. They get all new soil mix every two months. They have under tank heating pads and low wattage lights but the lights being in a 24 inch high tank don't get too close to them and if they really want to get close to them they have things to climb on to do so.
It is very tempting to wanna take pics right away but I plan to let Capone relax for the amount of time you suggested. I know this has got to be stressful for him (he should be arriving within the next few hours) Since I raised the two younger girls from little babes they were both good eaters but Domino wasn't a thriver. I handled her more letting her warm up in my hands and then she'd get more active and explore all over my arms and then just sit in the warmest area of me and stare at me. Golden was always bigger and more active. I think the added attention to Domino paid off because she suddenly began to thrive and be more active and caught up with Golden growth wise and activity wise. Every once and awhile they go their own ways in the tank but they always end up settling down together. So I know it's not recommended but I am going to leave the girls as they are. Capone will be alone in his home. He was one of two males Frank sent pics to me to choose from. I actually wanted his dad but he had already sold him. The other boy had better saddles but I didn't care for his head markings that much. I liked Domino's face better and he is a stunner. Hope the ladies think so some day.

There are about 10 of us who live here in Phoenix on this site regularly, mostly breeders who use aspen, and none of us have experienced bad reactions to aspen. I guess yours are more sensitive to it.

Aspen

Oh they don't have a reaction per sey they just seem to have alot more fun in the soil combo I mix. On the aspen it's like "Ok mom...meh!" But with the soil they seem to really enjoy the way it feels more. And Capone arrived safe and sound and is settled in his tank. I took one quick pic to send Frank just so he knows he arrived safe and looks great. Not worth putting up here.
