i sharp realized after the first set of hatch lings is that incubation is the easy part its the feeding im having a few problems with as 1 of the baby's born on the 4th still wont eat iv tried every thing right down to covering pinky with the skin of a lizard that shed to try and mask the pinky iv made sure it has plenty of fresh water daily and now only offer food every other day to see if that works but as yet nothings working

Please don't try that often, it will get used to not eating and/or get too stressed if you try tease feeding.

Have you tried to put it in a (covered) small tub in a silent, pitch dark place overnight with a pinky, slit or brained or dipped in chicken broth or tuna juice or with lizard smell? You might also try putting him overnight in a folded/taped paper sandwich bag with only a small opening left to get out, with all those types of tricked pinky's.

yes i have tried almost every thing iv also scanned every site on internet that's were i found the info on putting a lizard skin over the pinky and my occelated skinks had just shed so was lucky, but it didn't work iv exposed the brain and put a slit in back placed it in a dark box how long would you advice i leave between trying to feed him as he hasn't ate at all since hatching on the 4 th all advice would be very welcome

i will try your suggestion with sandwich bag and dipped pinkys as haven't tried that yet thanks for your advice its very appreciated

If I'm reading this correctly it has been what 12 days?? How often are you trying to feed it? What are the temps in it's viv and is it co-habbed?
If for instance you have tried to feed everyday that is stressing the snake. I would wait a few days before trying again. If the viv is too warm or too cold it won't want to eat. If the snake is co-habbed being close to another snake could cause stress and it could be a problem.

i was trying to feed it every day but was advised against it hes currently in a small tank as im not planning on keeping him once hes feed iv got a new home for him just don't want to let him go till i know hes fed and yes its been 12 days i tried again last night by leaving it in his tank with no joy so now im going to wait till Saturday and try again thank you for your advice

i wouldn't be surprised at all about a hatchling not eating for 12 days after hatching. i got non-feeders last year that had never eaten and were about 10 WEEKS from hatching. 6 of the 8 eventually went on to eat and are doing great! so don't stress yourself out worrying yet, and don't stress the little guy out by trying to feed so often. if it were mine, i probably wouldn't try feeding more than every 4-5 days, and make sure you give him time to eat (ie, leave him overnight).

will do and thank you for your advice much appreciated i didn't have problems with the others as the baby is one of 18 and they have all been re-homed i guess you always get 1 fussy one but i will take your advice as i know im probably stressing over nothing guess i just want to see him eat so i know after a few feeds he/she will be ok

I understand how you feel. It was agony for me to wait 5 days between tries when I first got Mal and he was refusing. He ate eventually (put him in a paper bag with a hot pinkie overnight) but until then I was so nervous!

Now he eats with all the lights on and me taking pictures. What a difference a few months makes!

I had a couple of hatchlings the year I first bred my snakes that wouldnt eat unless I was holding them.

I grabbed them lightly about 1-2 cm down from the base of the head and held a nice hot pinkie to their nose. They both took it and once I was sure it was in I let them just rest on my leg till I was satisfied it was down and put them back. A week later I did the same thing and they accepted. The next week all I put the pink on my knee and the snake on my leg n they ate without me holding them too it this time. The next week I tried in tub one ate the other I had to take out on my leg again but the following week they were both eating in their tubs.

well i hope it wont take to long as don't want it to die on me as it looks so cute it would be a waste but i wont give up trying thank you for your advice
