Thanks!

RKO out of no where!! :crazy02:

Hi and welcome! I think many of us here feed frozen/thawed. In my opinion, they are a better choice than live for a couple of reasons.

First... it is safer for the snake, because he/she can get injured by a live mouse. One of our snakes has a couple scars, which I believe were from being fed live by a previous owner.

Second... most of the internal parasites the mouse might have are killed after it's been frozen for a while.

Have I ever fed live to any of our snakes?... yes... one who'd refused to eat for a while. We'd tried all the other "tricks," but nothing worked. So, the live got her jump started on eating again, then we switched her back over to frozen/thawed. I'd say to just keep up with what you are doing. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask. Glad to have you here.

I am feeding frozen/thawed to my corn snake also. She takes them great, and was fed live ones before I got her. Now for the ball python we got, she is refusing the frozen ones. I broke down today and fed her a live mouse.

I only got my corn snake about 2 months ago and ive been feeding her nothing but frozen/thawed and everythings been fine. i agree with what people said above about the dead mice being more safe for the snake to eat.

I feed my snakes freshly killed. I have a reptile store in my area and i just ask them to kill them first. I started doing that because its safer for the snake and one time i had one eat through the bag and it took me 3 days to capture the little bugger in my car.

Can't beat the convenience of frozen

All my snakes eat frozen thawed. I can buy feeders by the hundred's, get better prices as consequence, have whatever size I need always on hand, they will never fight back, and I am now too squeemish to be killing them myself; especially since I need 15+ every feeding. The more snakes you have the greater is the convenience of FT.

Been there, done that with the live rodents in the really old days. Raised them myself then. What a hassle!:nope:

I have witnessed what a neglected rodent can do to a snake. It can be tragic. You only have to see a bad case once to get the point.

frozen/thawed

in britain it is actually illigal to feed live without a licence so i,m told from the local snake shop...i feed ruby frozen thawed at room temp, she is on medium fuzzies and she gobbles em up..she is now 1 year old and looks great 4 it.......

I feed f/t usually but since I have started raising rats I feed live if they (rats) do not have teeth and stunned if they do have teeth.

Just make sure that once the prey has teeth it is not left in the tank alive (or unsupervised) with the snake. Could cause damage to the snake if the snake is uninterested.

Just like to add that the frozen can be more convienent too than having to go to the store every week. I have a bag of 15 pinkies in my freezer right now... (shh don't tell the guests)
