Feeding my Boa Question

I got my little guy in April, and he has eaten great for me. He is almost a year old. I move him to a seperate container to eat, and usually zombie dance it for him. Well I was changing aspen on Sunday when I fed him, so I just put him and the mouse in his feeding container and closed it. He was in there for about a half hour, and I know he saw and smelled the mouse but he wouldn't eat it. So I carefully opened his container up after about 30 minutes, moved him with the snake hook(I really didn't want to reach past a hungry boa on feeding day) and picked up the mouse. I dangled it by his head and within 3 seconds he was constricting it. Do you think I will have to zombie dance it for him everytime?

You may have to, simply because now he is accustomed to it. I have had some that would go right after it if I just dropped it in, others would want it dangled. If he has good enough size on him, then next feeding just drop it in there with him. If it isn't eaten in 30 minutes or so, then put him back in his tub and try it again next feeding day. It won't hurt him to miss one meal, and it may get him to eat it next time without zombie dancing it.

My rosy boa used to be like that. I'd give up and tong-feed her. I figured out, though, if I left it long enough she would finally take it. She's gotten a lot faster as time goes by. I make sure it is really, really hot, though, because I don't think boas have the keenest eyesight, and if it's not moving, she needs something to attract her.

Boas are not picky... with age they become more ravenous.
Also, you may want to switch to dangling f/w... it's quite possible that the Boa is used to that.

Personally I always use tongs and dangle the thing in front of them. Zombie dance not needed. Mine are fed every couple of weeks so they don't waste anytime grabbing what comes in the cage with them.....my copperhead is the exception. He won't eat it unless you just put it in there and let him get it on his own time. Try to tease him and he'll usually go hide. Occasionally he strikes at it, but I've learned if I want him to eat...just put it in the cage nearby and he'll get it. All the rest just grab what comes in the door or shoot out of the door to get it before I can get it in there.

Ahh, I've always seen it as f/t. That's what I do feed him. Sorry, I should have put that in the origional post.
