i know this isnt really a problem i just wanted to know when u put your snake in a deli to feed it do you keep the top off and watch to make sure it doesn't escape or do you put the top on? i would hate the thought of suffocating a poor corn?

what i do is take one out the tank and put him in a small container and leave him to eat the mouse, with tallulah she strikes straight away and eats very quickly so i put her in a container, with the lid off inside the viv just so she wont eat the aspen but also so i dont have to handle her afterwards. i have to take vincent out because he has a habbit of trying to eat his mice from the side or bum first lol i think hes confused. takes him ages just to get interested in food.

It depends....

Upon the snake. Some of my snakes prefer to to be left alone to eat. They feel more secure and don't want to be bothered. My littlest California King will even rattle his tail if I try to open the top before he's done. Some like to be teased with the mouse and put up a bit of a fight. If I don't do that, I have one male that will drop it and then look at me as if to say... "come on, play with me". LoL...

When people put them in deli cups and tubs to feed, (or ship) they have holes in the plastic for air flow.

A snake is not likely to suffocate in the time it takes to eat. I always put the top on my feeding containers. Mine are all clear or opaque so I can keep an eye on them.

This is true. What i like to use is an empty and cleaned out butter container, like Country Crock. I put a few holes in the top and then for my shy ones I put the lid on. Even the most shy will eat when they feel secure.

You'd be surprised how long snakes can go without alot of oxygen. They can even be in pure C02 without being rendered unconcious (which is one way they euthanise mice and rats for feeding) Unless your corn takes over an hour and a half to eat then you should be fine, and if you want you can wait for him to get it in his throat and then open it up slowly to let some oxygen in. Otherwise I wouldn't worry about it. My cousin's snake used to stay underwater 15-20 minutes :eek1: and would throw a tantrum if you tried to take him out before he was done! :D
