Feeding!!

George!
well, i put my frozen rat pup into a tub of warm water, it went all soft and i felt its head and that was soft, exept the person at the store said if u dont get the de-frosting right then you can kill ur snake, so i am a little worryed about what to do.. i donno if ive defrosted it right, should i just chuck it away and then get another one out and leave it out over night to de-frost that way, fast responces please!! <3!

You just don't want the rat to be partially frozen when you feed it. So thaw in 37C water- measure with a candy thermometer or meat thermometer, and feel the pup to make sure it is all soft and very warm, then it's good to go.

well its all soft, its heads soft and its bodys soft but its not very warm :/ it only took like 10mins to de-frost so mabie ive done it wrong but its very soft and its head is too..

Heat the water up some and then put the pup back in for a couple of seconds untill its warm and then feed. Good luck

The skull isn't very hard in babies. It's ok for it to feel soft. Get it VERY WARM.

okay :p mums going mad lol, she ses if i dont de-frost it properly it might get food poisoning, shes more of a n33b then i'am :p

I guess she wouldn't want to know about snakes being left overnight with their meal in cases where they don't want to eat...

Even if you did thaw it in the refrigerator, like chicken, you'd still have to heat it up. And the animal eats it raw, anyway, bacteria and all. In the wild, they aren't cooking their meals.

he bit it, then sorta sniffed it and now is licking it, is this normal? he was fed 5 days ago, but i'am going away for christmas "i think" so i had to feed earlyer then 7 days

He's two years old, right? Might not be hungry if he was fed five days ago. Good sign that he's sniffing and licking it. Leave him alone, don't keep checking on him. Give him say an hour undisturbed.

If he doesn't eat it, he's just not hungry. It won't hurt him to go 10-14 days between meals. Don't get all worried if he refuses this one.

lol update: he eaten it all, so yea everything went well, i hope i de-frosted it right but it was soft and warm, ummm he liked that lol, ill get a vid on youtube asap, ummm when he was eating i noticed he had no teeth lol ?? this normal?

ummmmmmmmmmm..... on that thread i dont see the okeetees fangs? do they have any? or is it just them tiny little nippers!

They are tiny. I learned this from garter snakes... Nasty little things. Anywho... ya they are tiny little nippers. Correct me if i'm wrong but they chew on you sometimes.

Their teeth are tiny!!

Next time you feed him, you should consider putting him into a separate feeding container. The reason is because you don't want him to accidentally swallow any of the aspen, because that could cause an impaction (blockage) of his bowels, which could kill him. The aspen will easily stick to a damp rat, and the snake will swallow it by accident along with the rat.

It's very simple- you just get a small plastic container, punch air holes in the top or sides, thaw the rat, put the snake in, put the cover on securely, wait till he's done eating, gently put him back in his viv.

Tge teeth really remind me of strands of fiberglass.. Trust me, you will know they have teeth when they unload and bite you.. Nice little pattern of pin pricked hoes with a little crimson dots..
