Feeling as lost as my snake.

Well guys... I cannot believe this is happening to me... I lost a snake. Lily. Stupid human error was all that it took. I forgot to place the rocks back on top of her viv. Within a few hours she had escaped.

I not only feel utterly depressed, but I feel that I have failed as a snake keeper. This feeling truly sucks.

Setting out bottle traps, weak painters tape, water and news paper. Thing is...we have two cats and one dog.

Wow..........I hope I find her. I don't even know what else to say....

Ouch - don't be so hard on yourself, even the best of us make mistakes with a horrible regularity.

Stick some flour around doorways as well, and if possible lock the other pets up.

Search everywhere

I would also suggest searching in the most oddball places in your home. My cousin lost his '05 and found it two weeks later on the top shelf of an eight foot high book shelf. They have a great way of always finding the best spot away from "predators"

On top of what you've already tried. Another good idea is to stack a few empty soda cans close to a wall in several places. The higher you stack 'em, the more likely a passing snake will knock them over... of course this idea only works if you can hear the cans fall. And this won't work if your snake is too small to move those cans. If you're placing them on carpet, you could place an empty baking sheet or clean/unused paint tray... that way those cans will fall on something you could hear. I wish you the best of luck!

Found her!!!!

Oh thank you guys allllll so much! I made so many little traps last night! Luckily I had bought a high powered police-man-like flash light (the ones they use to club people lol) and I searched far and wide for her...even in the most awkward places. I also set out little heat mats because it was a cooler night and I was hoping she would seek those out.

I finally went to bed around four-ish and at ten this morning I let the dog out. I couldn't sleep. So I did another check throughout the house...When I found her near the far wall by the deep freezer I thought I was seeing things. I wanted to laugh, puke and pass out all at once! Anyways she seems to be OK. She has a little scratch on her eyecap but that will probably come off with her next shed. I am just so happy right now. I never thought it would happen to me. I can't even imagine how it must feel for a mother with a lost child.

My next mission: Going to Petland to buy lock and clasp viv's.

Once again thanks so much everyone! :wavey: :crazy02:

Oh I am so glad you found your baby. I know how aweful the feeling is making a mistake like that. My cat get's out sometimes and I feel so sick.

That pop can thing is quite smart.

Yep, thanks... most of us (like myself) are very cautious owners. But you can get it right a 1000 times... but wrong only once!

Yea....I hope I never get it wrong again. That was truly a horrible experience.

Thanks Tracy =)
My cat gets out a lot too, but he is too mental to go far. He usually crawls on his belly meowling like he is scared of the outdoors. (He is after all a Petland cat and all they do is keep them boxed up till they sell)

OMG, I missed the part where you found her!! Yay!!! I only have one viv with a home made top- and Choco is in it. I think I am going to buy a whole new one and put the toad in the old one, he doesn't need a lid. It's just a constant worry.
