Fennec Fox adoption

there's a bunch of domesticated red foxes, even artic foxes. very expensive but very tame. the taming of foxes started with the soviet union! really cool animal, really hyper though.

l0ck_0ff...

I totally don't want to take the wind out of your sails, yet I have to ask...

What about when you get deployed? I mean, I understand that your wife will probably take care of it. Is she as enthusiastic and committed to it's care as you are? I'm concerned that with you being gone for long stretches of time on deployment, you may not have the closest bond relationship with a Fennec as you hope for...you know?

well im not married lol but if i do have to go i will have my mom take care of it. now it all depends on how my arm heals if the marine corps thinks i cant go back to training they will honorably discharge me. if i can go back im not suree if they will deploy me. infantry go off and non infantry stay here. i mean we are all trained for infantry if the need araises but it really depends on how my arm heals.. they cant have a soldier with an arm thay might break easily again.... plus i might not be able to aadopt until spring depends on what the breeders have and spring is mating season.

It sounds like you are doing research, but it also sounds like your research is kind of biased.
I haven't heard even one negative possibility from you, which I think is a little unrealistic.
As a breeder if you can visit their home and hang out for awhile to see how their Foxs interact with everyone, what kind of schedule they have, just how the house is in general. That way you can decided if you really want to care for one of these, AND get some ideas of good husbandry skills.
Any good breeder should be comfortable doing this with you.
The trial period sounds good.. sounds like you've already contacted some reliable breeders.

Also, about oppinions: Everyone has them. We shouldn't judge others based on our personal oppinions or worry about how they are straying from our experience. I'm sure there are many people who would adamantly try to convince one of us not to keep snakes. As long as the OP knows what he's getting into and has a responsible plan it's not my place to judge him for wanting a Fox.

Weather domestication of Foxes is right or wrong... that's a whole other issue. Sadly if there's a market for something, ethical issues are rarely considered.

I have not done any research on this matter so I don't yet have a fully formed opinion. If you do end up getting one of these (to the OP), let us know how it goes! Good, bad, ugly, and just plain adorable..

What about when you get deployed? ?

This occurred to me as well..
Make sure your mother is 100% on bored with you and doing as much research as you are. It would be unfair for your mother to all of a sudden find herself with an exotic animal she's not prepared for.

One opinion I will share..
It is not responsible or fair to get ANY animal when your living situation is unstable and not up to you..

Well you silly goose...I got the 'married' part from your own profile! LOL

i have already got all of this under control. i realise they may be a handful and need stimuli and they scream.... i have already visited one person a friend of mine whose relative owns one.

my living situation isnt unstable per se. im here now and i might move but my chances are slim as i have a broken arm.... marine corps might discharge me...

if i dont get discharged well i take the fox with me.. a marine does have alot of free time believe it or not....

and i wouldnt just push this on my mom.. already discussed it with her.

plus i wont be able to get a baby til the spring... there wont be any newborns until then... so i have plenty of time.

He has stated before that he put that down, because his girl friend is like a wife.
thank you.

Then why does Mom have to take care of the fox?

my mom being closer to me. lets say me and my grlfriend ( who i refer to as the wife) lets say we happen to break up and she has the fox? whose to say ill ever see it again.

im just being cautious.
