Ferdinand the contest prize

Kali

lost cause
He's finally here! It was a little difficult to get him here, but Caramel had a friend who brought him to Hamm, and Marc Vervest brought him home for me. (Thanks both of you!!)
So here are a few pics of Ferdinand, my little blood het charcoal, amel, poss het caramel, anery.

He's a tiny little bugger, especially for an '09. Caramel told me he was only 4 grams when he hatched, and now only about 8 grams, although he has a good appetite. No matter, I'm happy with him and I'll try and convince him to get bigger. (go stand in front of the viv and hypnotize him *grow...grow...* :D)

The pics aren't really good, but I'll leave him be for now, I'll try and take more when he gets out of hiding.

Tell me what you think of him :)

I won in the photo contest here on this site. Caramel (and Ferdinand) is from Berlin, but it was kind of hard for me to go there at this time and I couldn't go to Hamm myself, had to work :(
So I put on my sweetest smile (be it behind my keyboard :D) and asked Marc.

Thanks, yes he is :)
about time for a pic update I guess, he's been cruising around now. I'll get on that soon.

Forgot all about the pic update I guess, and now I don't have to anymore. Ferdinand passed away yesterday :(
I've been thinking and going over all of what I did with a fine toothcomb, but I can't figure out what I did wrong.

Roman told me he was small but had been eating very well, and indeed, at first he ate anything I gave him, sometimes one pink, sometimes two (if they were real small reds) every 5 days.
The first time he refused I was surprised, as he never did that, but saw he was about to shed. No problem then, waiting for the shed.
He took a long time, 1.5 week before he shed, but it was by the books, all in one piece.
But he stopped eating.

I tried lots of things, but couldn't get him to eat again. Finally I started forcefeeding as he was getting really thin. I did that four times without problems, the fifth he regurged the day before yesterday. I was worried about waiting a week as he was already very skinny, but yesterday he died anyway.

To tell the truth I was kind of expecting him not to make it by now, but you can hardly not try right? And he didn't seem to be in any pain or anything, he still roamed around regularly, and drank well I guess (urates still regularly there) so I had to try.

But it's still sad :(

Sounds like he was pretty small for an '09. He probably wasnt thriving, even though he was eating. Its tough to lose them, but not all hatchlings make it.

Im sorry for your loss, he was a gorgeous snake!
