Fiesty 2011 Fire Stripe

Em Wright

The Ice Queen
This baby hatched tonight and boy was (s)he fiesty! I'm sure after settling in some it'll be fine. It was actually kind of sweet off and on, too.

Sorry for the small photos, baby was afraid of the camera so I was keeping further away than usual and they were all pixely and crappy at 800xwhatever pixels.

Baby's First Drink!

Those are some of the cutest photos of the season! What a great looking corn too. The after drinking photo is the best.

Thanks! I wish they'd turned out a little better. Color and everything is fine, but they're small and the quality is ick. But, they're decent enough I suppose, I'm just being a picky perfectionist!

The picture in my avatar is this baby before we offered water to it.

For some reason when I find them their skin is really dry. I'm thinking it might be the HatchRite, but I'm not sure. :shrugs:

I love fire stripes, thanks for sharing! Mine's especially sassy as well. They really live up to their name, don't they?

Thanks Heather!!

Katherine, this second clutch has all been really fiesty when we take them out of the incubator. They try to be all fierce, but they're strikes are so puny! It's really adorable.

That doesn't surprise me! My fire stripe's the only one of my snakes who's ever rattled at me but he does it all the time. I feel kinda bad for laughing at him, the tiny thing. He tries so hard!

We have one adult Kingsnake that is such a flighty girl. She musks and tail rattles, but the only time she's ever bitten is when she mistook my Mom's thumb for a mouse. (she let ago as soon as she realized it wasn't) :uhoh: It's really funny because she never strikes defensively or even moves to bite at all. She's gotten to where she calms down after a few minutes, but if someone moves suddenly she starts rattling again.

I think the "fakers" are the cutest! Because you know it's all show.

Oh man, I'd take tail rattling over musking any day: pee-yew! It's awesome that you keep working to tame her down!

Yeah, the musking is aweful. My Mom actually deserves the credit, she's really been doing a lot with her, I'm a little intimidated by her still.

hah, think of it this way: if you ever decide to get into skunk-keeping, you'll be well prepared ;)

LOL!! I hear that you can remove a skunk's stink sack and they actually make great pets. :p

I've heard the same thing! Skunks are pretty adorable little critters once you take away the threat of walking around with semi-permanent stink-rays.
