I am awaiting my new baby amel to eat for the first time (in my possesion of course) its in its deli cup but it seems to be "sniffing" the top of the cover and ignoring the pinkie i did what the pet store guy told me to cut the forehead and smear the fluid on the head(scent supposed to be really attracting to the corn) but it regurged about 9 days ago should i wait another week or wait a couple hours to see if it has eaten? :shrugs:

Cover the tub he's in. That way he won't be distracted by light coming in and thinking of ways to get out. I've some snakes that will only eat in a tub if it's covered. Can be just a piece of paper as big as the lid is. Also, don't try to feed it every day, it will 'get used' to refusing food. I'd day retry every 3-4 days with a youngster.

yeah i read the thread and i decided to throw away the pinkie and try again on tuesday but i nvr found out if cutting the forehead open and smearing the fluid was an effective way 2 get him 2 eat

The first time I went to feed my corn, she would not eat, so I put her in the deli style container and put the container in her cage (incase she got out of the container, she could not go anywhere). I left her in there overnight and she ate the pinkie the next afternoon. It took a couple of hours but she did eat. I did not have to cut the forehead of the pinkie either. Now, 2 months later, she gets put in her feeding container and when I put the pinkie in, she jumps for it. Try this, it may work for you too.
Just make sure the container has holes in it so the corn can breath.

yeah but doesnt the pinkie rot?
The pinkie will be fine over night.
He/she might want privacy to eat. Mine had a couple of feed where I needed to put the food in the tank in a plastic container and when I came back a few hours later and the next morning, she had eaten it.

WOW Lennycorn, you have got loads of great links there

Well, Thank you.
But just to let you know that I didn't write or post in any of the threads. I just collected them. So the bows and the thanks to the many informed folks that make up this site. .........I just pass it along.

Now Chris, There is no "sure fire way" of getting you snakes to eat. Their are
lot a differant tricks to try (also see the archives on the very bottom right of page, scroll down). So you have to be patience. I have found that feeding at night time (because they are "nocturnal") in a dim room helped. I sliced the back of f/r pinky (before defrosting) and lightly drop in with snake. I first let the snake "settle in" the feeding container. When dealing with hatchling you can't rush it. So if your didn't eat yesterday wait a few day to try again. This give you a chance to clam down and gather supplies and let the snakes to get more relax and hungrier. and your not conditioning your snake to refused food. Dipping in tuna juce I read helps too.
Read up while you wait.

Good Luck

I know and am aware of it but still, you also took the time to search/find these links and post them ;)
Maybe it should have been a  instead of a

Chris, I feed mine between 10pm and midnight. I have found that she responds better after 10pm. I handle her whilst the food is defrosting and when it is ready I feed her on a towel on my desk. She doesn't seem to mind but if she doesn't look like she is going to eat it there and then, I put it in the container where the food defrosted (removing the water of course) and put it in her tank so she can have it whenever she wants.
