First Feeding

Thanks in part to all the good advice from this forum, our new corn, Slithers, had a very successful first feeding, 3 days after his arrival. We put him in a deli cup with a small pinkie and within five minutes he was done! He spent the rest of the day in his warm hide and then tonight he decided to go exploring. It's really the first time he's come out of hiding since we got him and he gave the whole place a good going over. When he was stretched out, I was able to get a tape measure next to him: 16 1/2". We spent about an hour watching him and my 8 year old son thought it was sooooo cool. Anyway, it's really great to see him settling in so well. Here's a shot from the 2nd day. Now that he's out and about, there will be lots more.

glad to hear your snake had a good first feeding and it's good that he's exploring and coming out. My snake has yet to do that to often..She rarely ever comes out but I know she does when I'm not here...Good luck with your new family member :0)

A good alternative to the deli cups, which I find a bit cramped, are Sterlite plastic shoeboxes. They're $1.23 at WalMart, and are big enough for my 05s to still be using them.

Oh, and "Howdy, neighbor!" too :)

Fenderplayer, yes it's pine. But before everyone jumps all over me, it's kiln dried and sifted. I am assured that this is safe by people I think have enough experience to know.

We used the deli cup (tall, 1pt. I think) at Kathy Love's suggestion, because that's what she'd been feeding him in. We'll stay with that for at least the first few feedings. I did get a 6"x8"x2" Sterlite-type container from the Dollar Tree but now I think it might not be tall enough.

Kathy's recommendation is that you feed much smaller meals than normal for the first 3 weeks.
