First snake

Hi everyone, I just bought my first snake (a corn, obviously) a few days ago. So far I'm loving it.
Anywho, I just have one question, how sensitive are corn's hearing?
I currently have my corn in the same room as my drumset and although I usually play with silencers on its still pretty loud, should I consider moving the corn to another room or are they ok with loud noises?

welcome to the forums :) I'd personally pay more attention to the level vibrations produced by the drums more than the actual audible sound produced by the drums.

Welcome to the forums, there is a Mid-Atlantic Cornsnake Club forum in the member forums.
Good question, that answer's not in the stickies. Sorry, no help here.

Snakes are deaf, but I'm sure the vibration can affect them to some degree.

Congrats on your new baby!
(And your new addiction!)

I was told by our visiting reptile lady that snakes do not like to be around lots of loud screaming children, but then who does. She made all the kids be very quiet and had a staff person hold the snakes and only allowed children to gently touch the snake. But the noise bit may have been just her attempt to keep the children quiet.

Good luck with the snake!

Just to counteract that bit of experience, most of my adult breeder snakes are housed, and have grown up, in my 8th grade classroom. Approximately 80+ kids come through day in and day out. Things can get a bit rowdy once in a blue moon . . . or sooner when I'm left in charge . . . :grin01:

Though bangin' on the drums day in and day out, I may recommend moving the snake to a different room.

:shrugs:

As I said, I think she was just trying to get the kids to be quiet. And keep any snakes from wandering off with a child. These are kids 0-10 years old, about 200 of them in a quite small room. The snakes seemed ok, the parents more harried.
