Found a large amount of hatchlings...

I work for a landscaping company, and on a trip to a nursery to pick up some orders, an operater was lifting a tree out of some mulch when all of a sudden his laborers started pointing at the ground and screaming and counting in spanish. Curious, I walked over and noticed a couple hatchlings no more than a day old that looked like corn snakes. Obviously I was intrigued so I swept away some of the mulch and got the shock of my life. No kidding, 25 - 30 hatchlings scattered in all directions. I kept one of them and I'll try to upload a pic as soon as I can find my USB cord so hopefully someone can confirm that it's actually a corn snake.

He's grayish in color, with a camoflauge type pattern. He was very aggresive at first, biting at me every chance he had, but after about 10 minutes it seemed like he didn't even want me to put him down.

Also, he loves to bury himself in the substrate in his enclosure.

I just got him yesterday, so should I wait until he sheds to feed him, or should I try now?

Any info would help, so thanks in advance.

Congrats on the cool find! You should let him acclimate to the enclosure without taking him out or going into it for 3-5 days, then you could try feeding him. There are tons of really helpful threads on all the different basic care subjects, so you definitely came to the right place! Even if it's not a corn, there are lots of people here who own non-corns. Welcome, and can't wait to see the pics!

Based on your location and description, it sounds like Black Rat Snake hatchlings to me. Great find though!

I would wait for it to shed first, but then again no telling how old it is if you didn't see egg shells. You might offer it one small pink right away if you want to, if its interested it'll eat, if not oh well.

Good luck with it. =)

that would be cool..........wish that could happen around here. and yes, please post pics when you get them and welcome to the addiction. you will be buying more.
