Freak Snakes?!?!

Hey guys, A while back i purchased a nice big adult male amel corn snake, and he amazed me, i'd never seen a snake so large! He is just over 5 feet and about 700+ grams, powerful, great eater and healthy. But from what i see, his size is a but above average for corn snakes.

its not a big deal though!

However, I recently saw a BEAUTIFUL 4 year old female what looks to be a sunglow, however the breeder assured me she was a creamsicle and her parents were both creamsicles. She is such a bright orange i just had to have her. and guess what.. She is EVEN BIGGER!!!! she's got about an inch on the male, and atleast 60 grams! however she is a bit overweight and im working on that.

for some reason i was under the impression female corns stayed smaller than males generally, am i misunderstanding? or do i just have a couple of freakishly large corns?

Ps. if i can get the females weight down so she doesnt look so pudgy, they will be breeding next season :)

thanks, and sorry for grammar, punctuation and etc etc... I just wrote a 20 page essay for uni, i dont feel like editing, don't judge me :)

Nick.

She may have been powerfed or just plain overfed. Powerfeeding is harmful and shortens the lifespan of snakes. Though I have heard that creamcicles get longer than most snakes, she was probably overfed.

YES! I want to see some pictures! And yes, to my understanding Creamsicles do get larger since they are hybrids. Mine is a creamsicle b/c his mother was one. And she was fairly large around 5 feet or more, but unsure of her weight b/c I never asked. She was a beauty though!

Some snakes just get big. The sire to a clutch I was given is a 1060 gram Snow.

Wow! Beautiful snake!!!!

Not mine...I have a clutch of babies from that snow, that was paired with a Anery female.
(It's the clutch the hot little Motley came from). There's a Snow in the clutch & I may or may not be keeping it...definitely keeping the Motley....(wouldn't it be awesome if the Motley got that big?)

YES Definitely! That is a big & beautiful snake!

Breeding females (Corns or hybrids) can be on the smaller side, because the process drains their physical resources. Creamsicles do seem to have a rep for getting slightly larger than pure Corns.

ah well this clears up a lot, sorry guys. we have over 20 snakes that need to have progression threads, ill get em up when i get my camera from santa :)
