free pinkys or not?

I have 4, 07' corns that are feeding well of F/T. I have access to some free live pinkys that a friend has. My concern is this: If I give them some live pinkys is it possible that they may come to prefer them and begin to refuse F/T? Anyone ever try or experience this? thanks, Kyle

Even then I wonder if they could still "taste" the difference between fresh and warm and F/T? I can in most frozen foods. Anyone tried this with problems?

I wouldn't worry about it if it's only a one time feeding. They should go back to eating frozen. Occasionally when my hatchlings refuse frozen I'll give them a live to sort of "kick-start" their feeding and then next time they take a frozen.

yeah, I agree it shouldn't hurt to give them live or prekilled one time, but who knows you might have problems. When they are younger they are easily more adapted IMO. I have stubborn eaters (live only) that aren't corns, but they are older and seem more set in their ways. (Please, I am a f/t promoter, I know all the risks and warn people. All snakes in question have gone through all the tricks and trials, some converted but still have the die hards who finally won after a 9 month battle of not eating. But thanks for thinking of giving advice. )

I gave my ball python one that I prekilled in my co2 chamber without freezing for the first time last week. (I plan on freezing, but was in need of one right away) He looked at it, sniffed it over, actually cocked his head to the side as he went up and down all over it, before finally reaching out gently and taking it. This guy normally strikes so hard that the tongs sometimes go flying. It was cute and comical watching him with it. So I do think that there is a definite difference with the scent (or at least temp) with a prekilled vs. a f/t.

I would imagine that the act of constriction on a mouse would exercise and tone (however much?) the muscles of the snake. Imagine tensing almost every muscle in your body for more than a few minutes. Kinda like a yoga workout for snakes.http://cornsnakes.com/forums/images/smilies/shrug01.gif

I have seven corns ( more on the way) but only the Amber ever tried to constrict a few times and she gave that up a long time ago. Sounds like a potential poll though " How many people have snakes that attack and constrict their F/T mice ( assuming artificial manipulation is not used eg. shaking the mouse) ?":spinner:
