Freebies in a package?

I've received 'freebies' on two occasions. The first time, the seller asked me beforehand. He said that usually he didn't make a point to mention it before, but since I was a new customer, he wanted to make sure I would appreciate the freebies. The second time, the seller used manipulation to ask without me knowing. As we were talking about the snake I purchased, she slipped in questions about how much space I had and what projects I was working on. The snake I received was healthy, fit in well with my plans, and was very much appreciated.

Well I guess since I am one of those that has sent "freebies" I should chime in. LOL I would have to agree that it may not be such a good idea to send an unexpected snake to some one, for many reasons. And as some one else stated, sending non healthy animals is just bad business. I would never knowingly send a sick or kinked snake to any one. Not too long ago I sent a free snake to some one for a little girl in his family. She is going through a rough time in her life and I know taking care of animals has an amazing healing power for children, physically and mentally. But I did ask the person before hand. So it was only a surprise for the little girl. Now the latest surprise was sent to PJ and Jay and no I didn't ask first. I knew Jay loves White Oak ratsnakes and he had one lone female that would need a mate.

Would I be happy if some one sent me a surprise snake..heck yea! Free is free and I can make room. But not all people can accompany an extra snake they weren't planning on. I would not send a snake to some one unexpectedly unless I knew them very well and had some thing I knew they were looking for, such as with Jay. :)

Thanks... Jay was clearly delighted with that snake and you knew he needed a male white oak so I think in that type of situation would be OK :)

I've had one surprise snake - I'd pre-arranged a trade with someone for a normal het hypo lavender anery female in exchange for some multimammate rats. When I arrived to meet them, he got two boxes out instead of one, and said something to the effect of "I was just wondering if you were interested in giving a nonfeeder a go. She hasn't eaten for me at all, but I thought you might like to try since you mentioned you were wanting to breed lavenders... she's yours if you want her and can get her started."

Kainite is a beautiful lavender het hypo anery girl, and how could I refuse, especially knowing I had spare rack space at home? Incidentally... she is now a better feeder than the normal girl Sardonyx :D

I think that's the only way I'd ever offer a freebie (feeding or otherwise) - if someone spent the time chatting to me as a breeder, I had a good idea of what would fit in their breeding plans and they were collecting something else from me in person so I could say "Would you like this one too?" That way, it's no stress or fuss on the snake - it hasn't been shipped, and though it's a surprise it's an offer that could be refused with a "no thanks, I don't have room right now."

I will happily accept freebies in a package. I do understand hesitation to the idea, but I have many tubs and heat ready to go. Breeders please make a note and put me on the freebie list, lol. Send me your huddling squirmy masses yearning for an F/T.

Yeah, what Tom said... LOL :laugh01:

I have been the recipient of several "Freebies" as of late and I
absolutely love it/them!! I truly enjoy all (27 at this point) of my
snakes and am always looking for more. I'm even planning on
another rack (or 2) to make room for more. I am working on breeding
and am doing programs at local schools & for scout groups to share my
love for this wonderful hobby/addiction.

I'm not big on the surprise snakes. Of course in some of the examples given when the seller knows the buyer etc. it's a different story. However I have been known to offer problem feeders for free at the beginning of a season to someone that is buying a similar feeding baby. I only do this for people that seem to know what they are doing in regards to baby corns and I would never send it to a buyer unless they knew it was coming. I feel like this is a way to make room for me, probably in the long run better for the non-feeding snake (If I have three hundred babies and customer X has three, the snake will get more attention at the customer's house), and quite often if the snake has only refused a few meals it will start up eating when it gets the the customer's house, so they got a free addition to their breeding group. But, I am less likely to even offer when the snake has not eaten for several months....and I officially put it in the "problem" feeding category.....not many people want that headache.

i have only bought 2 snakes. both from an expo, but seeing as i have plenty of room i would love to get a freebie. i actually just had my little male lavender die very unexpectedly so if i bought anything online a freebie would make me feel alot better! i can always make room for a snake or two(corn snakes, no anacondas here...) but i have never had a snake or any animal given to me.

lol, add me to that list as well, that way i can get a breeding project started!!
