Fresh kill better than frozen ??

Just curious not for any other reason really but...

I go to Reptiles Unlimited, where they kill me a months worth of mice at a time for me to freeze myself. This works well, and I know the mice are fresh and fed well. Reptiles Unlimited is in Long Beach, Ca. by the way.

how do they kill them? Do they uthenize them? or some other way?

Thanks,

Lil. :)

Well, these are the ways that I know about. 1: You can put them all in a bag and the just freeze them. They will suficate in the bag. 2: you can either wack them up on the wall one by one, or you can put them all in a bag and wack them.

Ewwwww lol...

My brother in law has blood marks on his wall from doing it.

No, I meant do you know how the pet store does it before you freeze them yourself? lol blood marks on his wall? wow that's kinda gross lol. I'm joking when I say this of course. :)

Lil. :)

I would imagine most people euthanising a large number of rodents on a regular basis would use co2. Personally I fast-freeze pinks, and use cervical dislocation with anything bigger. There's no need to 'whack against a wall' , IMO unless you like drama:shrugs:

It is fun! :) But the only ones he did that to were HUGE old breeders that needed to go. Again, it is kind of fun for some reason.:shrugs:

FUN! There are so many things I could say, but I'll just say you thinking that's fun makes me feel sad.
I grew up on a farm, I've seen rabbits shot for eating, I've seen pigs and chickens slaughtered that I'd help raise. All killed quickly and cleanly, I'm not squeamish but I've never thought it was fun.

Guess where I am right now and guess what I had to do today. I am at a FARM and I had to move PIGS today!:grin01:

Wow,

I totally agree with you J9... and in my opinion, if someone says something like that is fun well, I think that's kinda sadistic, and sad as well. I'm not tryin' to start trouble at all but I don't think alot of people will agree with this person on that one. I won't say anything else on this one.

Lil.

PS. J9, you are a very strong person for only saying what you did and nothing else. :) I applaud you lol...

Ok guys... Why don't we try to get this thread back on the subject that it was started for! This is the second time that I have been masacured:punch: for somthing I said. The last time I got grilled I got called a little imbasule for getting mixed up with the sunkissed and golddust phases.:headbang:

Well if you look on any of my posts I don't "massacre" anyone, or have any kind of confrontation toward anybody on here but if there is any massacre going on here it's not towards you, it's the little rats that are being thrown up against a wall, and not to be just killed but for the fun of it?!?! Yikes, I'd hate to be one of your pets, lol.

Have a good day,

Lil. :)

Well just to get the post back on the original subject of is fresh kill better than frozen kill, I would say that it is personal prefrence and if you have the recorces to get fresh kill. :)

:angry01:I just tried a mouse from a new place.I believe the quality was/is better than Arctic Mice. This guys shop is strictly reptiles,,almost all snakes, except for a few BD's,geckos and a 5' croc :eek1:
So my corn refused the meal....:angry01:DAMN !!!!!!
I hate that,,what a waste.
Just think,,If I had,say a ball python,and fed live,well then no waste.
If the snake does'nt eat the mouse,pop it in a 10 gal.,,feed it for a week,then go for round 2 :)

You know as long as you didn't have the mouse thawed out so long it was rotting I would have just refrozen it...

At petsmart they wanted 10$ for a pack of 6 frozen pinkies!!!, So now I'm thinking about just getting 2 mice, and...making my own lol

Well, there's petsmart for you. Not to mention that those pinkies were probably frozen a rethawed several hundred times, and that they were basicly capsules of disease.

I feed f/t, and have never had any issues. I buy from The Mouse Factory, and their feeders are clean, well-fed, and vacuum-packaged. Shipping is kind of expensive, but I buy approximately 400 mice/rats at a time, so that makes it a little more economical. If I lived in a rural area, and had more room, I might try to raise my own, but time/space prohibits it for now.

And sorry, but I'm having a hard time wrapping my brain around the idea of killing animals for entertainment. I don't believe that anyone is trying to "massacre" you, but when you make such a statement, expect people to respond.

Kathy

It is fun! :) But the only ones he did that to were HUGE old breeders that needed to go. Again, it is kind of fun for some reason.:shrugs:

It's been well documented that serial killers start out by killing small animals for "fun". I think it's time to tell mommy and daddy that you and big brother need to see a therapist.....

Don't understand why it would be fun.. ?? Whats to be entertaining with taking away a life.. ?? I understand and determine it is for food, for it is never a fun thing for me to do.. Of course there is no one trying to massacure you, but what you do have is people expressing their opinion politely about how they prefer to dispatch their rodents, however if you can read between the lines ( like that is nescessary ) being entertained by smashing a rat against the wall is a tad bit morbid and just screwed up..

Seriously, if you truly believe that killing small animals is "fun", you need to seek help.

People who have been taught COMPASSION realize that even though rodents are food, they feel pain just like any other creature. Their small bodies are equipped with a brain, spinal cord and nerve endings just like a dog or a cat. Slamming them against a wall for kicks is sadistic behaviour. "Normal" people don't find killing helpless creatures "fun", but serial killers do.

I don't care WHY you think it's fun. The fact that you DO think its fun is quite disturbing.

You really need to tell mommy and daddy that you and big brother need some therapy.
