Frozen or fresh pinkies?

Or does it really matter? I am off to buy my first pinkie for our 7wk old corn. Should I stock up or buy fresh or just buy one frozen at a time.. Help?

Also is there a certain time to feed him? Like I know they hunt at night, so I was thinkin' tonight to feed him. He is sleeping right now & has been all day.

I'd start him off on frozen. He isn't going to care. I think it's easier to buy a few, or a lot, at a time. I usually feed at dusk, but people feed at other times of the day, too. It seems more natural to me, though.

Man you guys are grt here!! Thanks for the fast response!! OK I will do that. I thought I would try & keep him in a natural type enviroment as possible ie feeding a dust/night....etc

I usually buy a bag of 10 F/T. It saves going out all the time, and for 1 pinkie I would suggest buying more than just one for such a young corn :)
 
Okay guys I am back! I got 6 frozen pinkies. The guy pulled them out fresh & into the freezer..YIKES!! Boy this is all new to me....lol

So its 6:45pm & will give him his first pinkie since he has been in his new home. He is still in his house & seems to be awake & alert. Any ideas on how to give it to him? The snake guy said I could just put it in front of his hiding home.

Its weird I am exciting & nervous all at the same time. Its like my baby. I'm excited/nervous. Anyone kwim?? :rolleyes:

I first started feeding in a brown paper bag because it could be dark inside for a shy eater. But you could find what works for your snake. I feed at night, 9pm. In a low traffic area. (I have a family with friends) I feed in a separate container for a few reasons, one is so that the snake won't be able to eat substrate and second it make me handle the snake at least once a week to examine. And I now feed in a five gal tank that has a secure lid. so if you happen to fall asleep a 9 something you have no fears....
 
Alright guys he has eaten his first pinkie at home, The kids were able to watch & learn & for me that was the BEST part. So its over & it was not hard, just had to get him out of hiding. lol I think he is shy. He has red eyes, I am told he does not like light b/c of that. hmmmmmm

Thanks for the advice I was concerned about the substrate....
 
I have a couple of amels (snakes with red eyes) and they are in room light during the day, sometimes in hide sometimes not. I take all my snakes outdoors in the sun, I've never asked them if they like the sun lol, but they don't try to hide either.
As already stated if you feed in viv you should put something down under mouse so they don't swollow substrate. A lot of people do that but when I tried it once with an older snake she dragged the mouse under the newspaper and ate. So now they all eat in seperate tub. good luck with new snake, susan
 
Thats awsome man I'm glad your taking a liking to your snake hehe, yeah you can either feed em by putting it infront of his hide or you can just put them in a container and feed them that way, just make sure the container isn't see through because the snake will be more interested in looking out on the other side then paying attention to its food item.
 
Small hatchlings I feed in the deli cups that they came in. When it gets too hard to get them into the small deli cup they are fed in a sterilite shoebox with holes drilled in the lid.
 
i have always fed my snake in his Viv. this is purely because that is what his previous owner has always done and i didn't Want to change hid routine. some people disagree with this as they say it may teach you're snake to associate a hand with feeding causing them to bite. to avoid this happening i feed with tweezers. touch wood i have never had a problem doing this and never been bitten.
