I'm begining to think that mice are not for me. I lost a male mouse last week, and right now I'm trying to get one of my females to live. She is currently "shivering" like crazy, and not moving to much. She is cold, so I have her in a little dish on top of a heating pad. Hopefully she will warm up and come back around.

To bad my little guy cant eat rat pinkies. I've had rats have litters before, with out a problem.

I would say thats a little cold for them. I usually keep mine at roughly 68F. To cold and they won't reproduce. To hot and the same results. So you want to keep them a little warmer.

Maybe shes sick and needs to go to the vet...but sounds like your temps are cold!!! Keep an eye for sneezing and other signs of being sick, i know its just a mouse but hey they are making food for your snakeys and need your respect....so try warming it up and if that doesnt work take her to a vet ASAP....

I keep mine mouses outside in the shed were it is below freezing point sometimes during the night.
They have no problems with it.
I give them some shredded newspaper to build a nest.

They even breed better during the winter then during the summer where it gets around 80F.

My mice have not made any babies since I've had them. I'm not taking a $1.00 mouse to a vet.

erm, is the cost what determines the level of care? sorry to sound harsh but any animal in your possession deserves your care and attention, and if it needs the vet, it needs the vet, feeder, breeder or keeper

If it was my dog, cat, snakem , horse... then yes I'd take/have a vet look at he/she. This is a measly little dollar mouse. I'm sure not spending vet prices on a mouse! It's easier just to replace that mouse if it should die with another one, in.

I whoreheartedly agree.

I can understand the food chain and i know snakes need to be fed etc but this mouse is in your care you should provide it with it.

No matter what size the animal is or how much it cost to buy, it shouldn't have to suffer.

And some people say "Its only a dog" and chain them outside in the winter 24/7, etc... Take the poor mice upstairs where its warm and dry for goodness sake.

You WHAT!??
I find this a totally and utterly head-banging attitude.
Even if it is a mouse, you should and have an obligation to provide proper care. If you do not, it is animal cruelty!!!!
If you think in $$$; which you seem to do; you should remember that this $1.00 mouse is going to save you big bucks when she breeds.

This kind of attitude really really bugs me

:angry01:

:realhot:

Right, I have vented my $%%*&^ :puke01:

When you buy an animal it is your responsibility, and when you judge animals on their price tag then that does not show a whole lot of responsibility on your part. Personally I wouldnt trust a 'lower priced, lower worth' corn snake to you because if it dies you can just get a new one for cheap. If you havent noticed so many people out there have the same exact attitude towards the cheaper reptiles; anoles, iguanas, cornsnakes ect. If you want your mice to stop dying and start breeding then pehaps you should start caring for them; it is that simple.

I hate to admit it but this is probably the reason your mice are dying. Improper care. You want feeder mice so badly you're just going to have to take a little better care for them. These mice aren't just something fun to do on your spare time to get them to breed. Their also your responsibility to care for, if you want healthy baby mice in the future. In those temps the babies would probably die.

Sometimes the people in here surprise me.
In WONDERFUL ways.

My 2 pet ratty girls go to the vet if they are sick.
ALL my animals go to the vet if they need to.
The snakes, the gecko, the blue tongue skink,
people understand. My ratty girls I get alot of flack for.
They are my pets, I am responsible for their well being.
And they make me smile everyday.
Vet care is a small price to pay for that.

I could never breed food for my snakes,
but your respect towards your charges warms my heart.
Diamondlil, twix, kimbyra, jenkva,DaemoNox baba-lou and anyone else who feels this way....
Thank you for brightening my whole day.
