Getting a corn! Check out my setup....

I plan on getting a corn in the near future and just wanted to get my viv setup ahead of time to be sure i had my temps and humidity under control before the snake arrives. I am using a 20l with repti bark as the substrate. I do have a couple questions about the temps and humidity. Currently the warm side is around 95, which i know is too high. I will be getting some way to control this, either a rheostat or a thermostat. The cool side is currently around 79 degrees, which makes sense being that is what the thermostat in my room is set to. Is this too high for the cool side? If it is, is there any way of keeping that side cooler without actually lowering the a/c in the house?

And now the humidity....since the repti bark is pretty moist, right down at its level the humidity is around 80-85%. About an inch above the substrate it drops down to about 50-55%. Should i be concerned with this? If need be, i can set the viv out in the sun for a couple hours to try to dry the stuff out a bit. I wanted to get aspen, however, petco was out :flames:

I also want to say thanks for all of the valuable information provided on these forums, it is invaluable to the new or prospective corn owner.

Now comes the hard part...choosing a morph!

79 is okay for the cool side, the snake will soak if it needs to cool down.

The reptibid will eventually dry out, so you're okay there. Need either a rheostat or thermostat, but you know this.

You're good to go so far.

That looks like a nice set up!!! I think you should try to lower the temps just a bit, try just a uth(under tank heater) and if that doesn't work place the uth on a piece of ceramic tile under the warm side to distribute heat, some one correct me if I'm wrong about that

Just an update, i put a rheo on the UTH and the temps are now under control. I am also getting a beautiful male charcoal from CCCorns, it should be here wednesday morning.

Looks great!

Hello!
That set up sure looks like paradise for a corn to me! Plenty of places to hide! But do take note, sometimes a lot of space can be intimidating to a baby corn. So if you find he's not eating, you can put him into a deli cup with the pinkie overnight, and that should allow him to feel secure enough to go ahead and feed. Just another .02 cents from someone who's been there and done a few other things besides! :grin01: Best of luck to you and your new pet!

Another update...

The snake arrived this morning. He is in blue so he promptly burried himself under the substrate :flames: I have not seen him since about 10 minutes after I put him in :shrugs:

Anyway, hopefully he will shed in a few days and will start to be more active. Now I just need to think of a name.
