getting a corn snake

Breeders in kentucky

Hey! Glad to see someone else from Kentucky on here. There have been a few others from KY on here recently. One thing you could do is wait a couple of months ( I know how hard that can be!!), and come to the Ky reptile expo. It was just held this past saturday, and will happen again in two months. I'm not sure the exact date, but I can find it later. It is held just a couple of miles down the road from you in shelbyville. There are a lot of breeders there. I personally suggest Dwight Good. He is a great guy, and will help you with any questions you have. I have gotten three of mine from him, and they are great corns. That is also were I get my f/t mice. If you need any more info, I can try and find you a link to their website. Anyways, good luck in your search!!

Thanks. I've tried to get ahold of Dwight Good. But he hasnt returned my messages yet. Theres a reptile expo 2 days before my birthday. The Expo is gonna be on April 2nd. So im planning on going but first this weekend i gotta find me a cage and everything . Id like to have everything i need before i go to the Expo. Thanks for your help. Also It's nice to know that you from ky to lol. I'd really appriciate that link. Once again Thanks.

I think that you have be VERY careful about pet stores!!! But not all of them are bad news. I just got my Monty from a pet store and I feel pretty good about the whole thing. But there are things people should think about when shopping at pet stores. First of all, I never shop at stores that sell puppies and/or kittens. Why? Because more often than not those babies are from puppy/kitten mills. I'm sure that those of you are are serious about snakes understand the problems there. So the pet store where I got my Monty only sponsers adoption clinics from the local Humane Society. This store has operated locally for well over a decade and have an excellent reputation. The guy that I talked to about the snakes seemed to know a lot about corn snakes, and in fact recommended I get a corn over a green or ribbon snake because I have kids. Everything he told me about care of a corn snake has checked out, so that made me feel good. Also, my little snake was fed last Thursday, is a good feeder and is 5 to 6 months old. The guy at the shop said he could look up the exact age for me if I wanted to know, but I didn't. I don't know anything about Monty's parentage, however, he is a pet. It is extremely unlikely that I will ever breed him, so I'm not terribly concerned about that. Oh, and the pet store I got him from always smells decent and the cages are clean. Anyway, this is not in defense of all pet stores, there are some really bad ones. I drive an hour each way to the place I got Monty even tho there are 2 different shops with corn snakes within 10 minutes drive. There are good pet stores, but as a potential pet buyer you just gotta be careful!

Thanks. But i've pretty much ruled the pet store thing out now. Im planning on going to the reptile expo in shelbyvile ky which is pretty close cause i live in the louisville area, but anyway thanks for your reply and info. Also i would like to thank all of you for your info and replies. Just one thing, my uncle has a 30 gallon tank. Im not sure of the dimensions yet but im thinking on buying it from him. I know it sounds rather big. But i plan on trying to get a fairly old corn. So please tell me what you think of this tank.

Also i just went and got, The Corn Snake Manual by Bill and Kathy Love. I've started readin it. I havent got that far but im sure my eagerness will get the better of me and ill read it all tonight lol.
