Getting A Snake To Constrict Multiple F/T Items

Spitfire

Snakeless
When you feed multiple f/t food items, how would you get the snake to constrict it? I know with just one you can wiggle the mouse in front of the snake with a pair of tongs. Do you do the same with two? Use two paris of tongs?

You wouldn't feed both items at the same time. Wiggle one mouse, let the snake eat it, then wiggle the second mouse.

Well the reason I want her to constrict is not too much for the fun of watching it but beacause I heard that the excersise keeps the snake from being obese.

Obesity is a problem with older snakes. Constriction is less common in younger snakes however, most of my adults readily constrict every meal. No training required. ;) This is really one of those "owner's preference" techniques.

So I really don't have to worry about the snake constricting til it's an adult? Does that mean I can just let the snake eat the mouse without doing anything else? No wiggling the mouse?

I thought the recomendation to wiggle the mouse was mostly in training/tricking them to eat f/t.

Does that mean that even if you don't wiggle it, the snake may start constricting when they are older? Because mine hasn't tried to constrict his food yet, sometimes he'll get excited and curl up weird when he's eating, but never constrict. Someone I talked to said their snake never bothered constricting pinkies, but once they got to bigger food, the snake constricts like crazy.

No, the wiggling was just for constriciton. My snake has willingly ate f/t before. It never constricted the frozen pink but it did on the live one.

If you want to wiggle-n-jiggle that is perfectly fine. I just mentioned that obesity isn't really a concern until later, providing that you aren't overfeeding.

Is it okay to overfeed if you want a bigger specimen quicker as long as it constricts? Or does it possess a threat to the snake's health either way? (powerfeeding)

I would say it's not okay. The word "overfeed" is negative in nature. Are you looking to breed in a hurry? Growth faster than the body intended puts strain on the bones, joints, ligaments, etc. Growing snakes don't seem to have the tendency to put on weight like the adults do. However I don't think constricting the prey would be enough exersise to prevent obesity when an animal is being overfed and kept in a tank.

No, I'm not really in a hurry. CAV brought it up and I was curious. I'll just stick to my regular feeding schedule.
