Getting kicked by a horse really hurts..

Was outside last night feeding when one horse decided to get frisky. When he kicked his back legs I was in the path. Caught me on the side of my knee and thigh. MAN DID THAT HURT!!!! I've never felt anything like it in my life. I actually don't remember the couple minutes after that. But, anyway I was lucky, not broken. Just a severe hematoma and contusion. Which I guess is a bad bruise. But it was dead on the muscle. So, I have crutches and a couple days off work. Just wanted to share my pain.:spinner:

:sobstory::cry::cry::cry::sobstory:

 Some of us knew it would hurt without even going there.

Sorry, just had to say it.

LOL, yeah it does hurt.. Lucky you didn't break anything.. I've broken my arm, my knee and my ribs from the backside of a pair of hooves. Rest yourself, those will probably be some pretty good-looking bruises. :)

Ouch!

I've never been kicked before, but I was thrown off into a stall door when "my" horse got spooked by the dog. Broken arm, scrapes, and a lot of bruises. Being a young'in, it took me a while to be able to ride again. I was a bit freaked out by the experience. I'm really glad I managed it though.

Crutches suck. Best of luck recovering!

Yeah, I've got a dent in my thigh from a horse kick a few years ago. Swelled up huge and turned lotsa fun colors. Everyone wanted to poke it..

Never been kicked by our horses, but I HAVE been kicked by one of our Llamas. I can't say that it was much fun. My thigh was at least 6-7 shades of blue for almost two weeks, then as many shades of green for about a week.

You should take pictures of it when it starts to turn colors. Bruise pictures are awesome. :D

I came pretty close to being rolled on by a horse once... She was a bit older and had bad knees. We were going down this hill and she fell. It was steep.. I was able to jump clear but she started to roll towards me. Talk about life flashing before your eyes.. It was in slow motion too! I had to crawl out of the way. I never crawled so fast in my life. I actually felt the wind on my face as the hoof went by my head. (We were both OK though)

I haven't been fortunate enough to get kicked or thrown, but my best friend came off her horse last Oct and was in the hospital for more than a week. Her horse, an old fart of a QH, decided to start bucking (which she's used to, she's had him forever), only this time he went to the right and she came off to the left and landed full force on her ribs on the top rail of the fence. She had cracked ribs, a partially deflated lung, air in her chest cavity and more bruises than you could shake a stick at. She had to have a tube in her chest to release the air. She still has problems with lifting anything over about 30lbs and she was a rainbow of pretty colours for more than a month. I told her she could be a hippie since her body was already tie dyed. Man, I don't ever want to get kicked or come off a horse like that!

Thanks everyone. At least since I have to be home, I can log on to my fav. snake forum.:spinner:

Ow! The only thing worse is getting bitten!

Here's my list of kicks I can remember:

Kicked with both feet direct to the butt by a bratty pony. Went flying, but wasn't hurt.

Conked in the head when cleaning a front hoof, by accident. The horse was getting a fly- my head was in the way. Loss of consciousness- not sure how long- I was alone. I was a kid, and didn't tell my parents.

When I was apprenticing for horseshoeing, I had a horse in cross-ties, and I was on a front hoof, when the horse reared and picked my up off my feet and I fell directly under him, landing on my back, with this ankle-length muleskin apron tied around my waist. The horse went psycho and did this frenzied dance all around me without stepping on me. I rolled away. My boss said "I thought you were dead..."

Horseshoeing, working on a rear leg, got kicked in the thigh, flew through the air completely off my feet. It hurt. I had a giant horse-hoof-shaped goose egg, and could barely drive my truck with a clutch home.

Aw! That sounds ouchy! Hope you feel better soon!

I have been kicked a few times, the most memorable being when a little pony named Apache got me straight in the knee! I must have had a hard knee, as it didn't break!

Oh, my other painful but funny horse story is (i know, this doesn't have to do with kicking--i have WAYYY too many injury stories from horses):

I was walking a mare at this trail riding stable I worked at back to the field where her buddies were waiting. They were excited to see her and crowded close to the gate and the electric fence. I just got into the pasture and managed to unhook her halter before another horse pushed me into the electric fence. This fence was made for cattle, mind you, so it is VERY strong. The electric wire slapped me right across the butt and shocked me bady.

My entire spine whiplashed out of my control, and my hair stood on end. I had a light burn across my bum for a few days. So, that's something that can happen even if you don't get kicked!!!! I was very fortunate that my spine whiplashing got me out of contact with the fence...I could have had major injuries otherwise!!!

Nancy, my partner is a blacksmith. Reading your stories, I am lucky!

Clip,Clop, LOL.
Sorry but your story was funny. Gotta hate those electric fences.

Wasn't meant to be whiny. I am home, felt like chit chatting, so I came to the chit chat forum.

I was just giving you a hard time.
I feel for you Deb, I've only been kicked once but it was enough. I'm glad you could come here and take your mind of your pain. Hope you mend quickly.

I'm lucky enough to have never been kicked, and only bruised myself falling off. Hope you feel better soon. Being temporarily slow on my feet right now means I can't spend time around the ponies because I'd almost certainly get squished or trodden on. (Luckily neither of them are kickers, but the cob Joe can be a bit 'disrespectful' and barge)

The only time i've been kicked by a horse was when my mares colt was about a month old and decided he liked kicking people. Now he wasn't very big but he kicked me and got the inside of my right thigh...it turned the most interesting shade of blue and then green. After a few firm smacks on the rump he quit kicking and went to biting but soon learned that didn't work either so he decided to be cute and sweet instead and that was good with me.

I've also had the right side of my right foot stepped on by one of my horses it turned a deep indigo color and hurt so much i couldn't walk on it for almost 3 weeks..but then it healed up and i was fine again

Same horse that stepped on my foot also bit my upper right arm and gave me a bruise about 4 1/2" in diameter on my arm...couldn't use my arm very well for the next month.

And i've also had my share of falling off my horse but only ever got bruises and some scrapes nothing else.

I love horses....best creature out there besides reptiles.

I'm sorry you got kicked! I have always feared it would happen to me when I had my guys. Luckily I've only been thrown. Like Nanci said the biting hurts a bunch too....hope you start feelin' better! :)

Thanks everyone. Funny thing is I don't have a bit of bruising. Just a hoof print. Still hurts like heck, though. And the swelling is still there. But I imagine it will take a couple more days.

I was just giving you a hard time.
I feel for you Deb, I've only been kicked once but it was enough. I'm glad you could come here and take your mind of your pain. Hope you mend quickly

Thanks, Wade.:spinner:

Ouch!

I've never been kicked, thankfully, but I've fallen off before. And once a horse trod on my foot. That was very painful and I could barely walk for a while. Nothing broken luckily, but I had one MONSTER bruise for a week or so
