What room is best for placement of corn snakes viv?

We'd like to put in living room so we can enjoy watching it, but I'm worried there might be too much noise/activity... but would be quiet at night which I understand is when they prefer to eat anyway.

Another option would be to put in my home office. It's warmer in there and always very quiet. I would enjoy the little distraction throughout my work day, but the family wouldn't see it much.

How long should it's home be set up before we bring the new guy home?

The LPS is expecting a new shipment of babies this week... should I ask the pet store to hold him for a few days to settle from the recent shipping before bringing it home? (assuming they will be healthy and have one we want)

Is a light source on top of cage necessary if UTH is used and tank is warm enough?

i would think that being in the living room would kinda be stressfull for it, sence they are nocturnal and alot of noise during the day could mess up it sleeping pattern(just an educated guess)...not to sure about how long home should be set up, i set mine up the same day i got him and her...if the pet store is gonna make sure that its healthy id say leave it there for awhile and let them find out if somethings wrong with it...if not then id prolly go ahead and get as soon as it comes in so that way it doesnt get stressed and then a couple days later get stressed again...just one semi long seems better to me...and no you dont need any kind of light source on top if uth is at right temps.....

well have fun with your new snake once you get it theyre great

We have our viv in the livingroom. The general noise from the TV etc does mean that Scar takes to hiding during the evenening, but I have caught him moving around at night once the lights are off and we've gone to bed.

As you know, a move can be very stressful for a snake. My opinion is that a few days in the pet store before taking your new guest home would not be a bad idea.

A light source is not necessary. In fact, corn snakes being nocturnal, a light source would be for your benefit only and if used for a prolonged period it may annoy your snake. I just turn the viv light on when I need to.

I wonder if the less time in a pet store, the less time they have to screw him up...Will he have a health guarantee?

I have 10 snakes in the living room, two in my bedroom, three in the kitchen. Actually, two of those are on a counter dividing the living room and kitchen. Most spend time just watching- they seem interested in what is going on. But I don't have a bunch of kids running around, either.

My bunch (oldest is 20 with a couple of 16 year old veterans) have always lived in my lounge and I have the TV on constantly in the evenings for company. I've not noticed any signs of stress etc.

Choco comes out of hiding when the TV gets turned on. That's how she knows I'm around and she can try to get me to let her out!
