going to shed?

hi guys.
ok so i know iv allready posted on a few threads about the fact that i think my snake may be shedding soon. BUT.....he has shown some behaviour over the last couple of days and i think he is DEFFO goin to shed soon. I just wanted to put it on here to see if you guys agree.

So....i didnt see him all yesterday, which is quite normal cos he is usually out from about 7.30 and then he will stay out all night, but i didnt see him out all night either. He was hiding all dayy and night. I saw him this morning for about 2 mins cos he went to get some water, but then he went straight bak into his hide......I just thought id chek on him to see how hes doin. So i uncoverd him. Someone mentioned that an Amel corn snakes colours turn a dull pinkish colour when ther going to shed, im pretty sure that his colours have gone a bit pinky and deffo a lot duller. I tried to get him out when he started moving, and he deffinately did not want to cum out. He was grabbing on to everythin with his tail when i tried to pik him up. lol i took the point and i thought it would be best to just leev him alone. he now bak in his hdie again.

what do ya think guys?? leave him well alone until he sheds?? if he is going to shed????

advise please.

From the description your giving I think you should let him be for now. Keep a look out in his tank for shed skin since somethimes they like to shed in corners and their skins get hidden. He is definitely shedding from what your describing. Maize does the same thing when she is ready to shed. Just make sure the humidity is at a good level to keep him comfortable and to help with the shedding. And good luck to ya. :wavey:

Try and keep all your queries abotu the same thing in one shed if you can - it just helps us to keep track of where you are.

(I was going to post in your 'clicking' thread because no one had mentioned the possibility of a respiratory problem, then I saw you had made one about respiratory problems yourself so I realised my answer would be pointless!).

The sure-fire way to know if your snake will shed soon is to see if the eyes are cloudy; sometimes the paler skin is more difficult to notice, particularly if they are hiding, as corns tend to prefer being left alone at this time (hint hint!).

You need to buy a book and/or learn to use the search function. ;)
If you get Kathy Love's book, Cornsnakes the comprehensive owner's guide it'll answer a lot of your basic questions and give you a lot more confidence in caring for your new pet. You can order it from WHSmiths. I've only had my snakes less than 2 years, but as well as using this site, the book really helped me to learn what I'm doing. I still re-read it regularly when I'm unsure about something

hey everyone.
he still hasnt shed yet and hasnt been out for a few days now. but id usually feed him today. what do ya think? shal i see if he wants to eat, and if he does, great. if he doesnt, no big deal.?

hey. I just offerd him some food. (inside his tank because i didnt want to take him out while he is in shed). He chugged it down no problems! He ate it really quikly as well. must have been hungry. lol he then had a wonder round his tank and drank some of the water of his leaves that i had sprayed in his tank earlier, then went straight bak to his hide wer hese been for the last 3-4 days!

i noticed his eyes have deffinately got a hint of blue to them! lol i wish hed get a move on! i miss him! lol

Well since your snake is just in blue phase right now don't be worried if his eyes clear up and he still hasn't shed...snakes will usually shed a few days after their eyes clear from the blue color. My snake will also eat no problem when she is in blue phase. It's good to own a snake that won't be so picky of when to eat, but even if he didn't eat, don't worry to much on it as some snakes don't like to eat when their in blue or in any time of their shed..but that is only with some snakes..as you have seen yours isn't picky and seems to like to eat. Your fortunate...hehe..Also I don't know if you have one but having a humid hide in his tank would really help him with his shedding period..You can either make one out of plastic or if you have a hollow log in there you can even put some moss inside the log (or slightly damp paper towl) and that can act as a humid area for the snake to go to so he can rub off his skin and feel more comfortable..Just an idea I thought I would throw out there...

Brtrude, you have posted a lot of topics on things that could have been answered these two ways. Have you checked out the FAQ on here?

haha! i know. sorry about that guys. it was mostly in the first week when i had questions about EVERYTHING! i was running around like a headless asking questions everywer! lol

again, really sorry about that but iv calmed down now! lol

YYEEEYYYYY!
DEZMOND HAS SHED HIS SKIN!

Im so pleased with the little guy. I got him out this morning to chek on him and his eyes and skin had seemed to return to there normal colours but ther was no skin in his tank. So i jsut left him and went out to the gym. Iv just got in andd went to chek on him and he was just crawling bak into his hide and ther was a freshly shed skin on the floor! All in one piece and everything! I thought id just take a quick look at him to make sure he didnt have any skin left on his body and he was A OK! All his colours looked great, very vibrant! I didnt get him out though, im guna leave him now til tomorrow so he can just chill for a bit. Im well pleased!

one other thing. Has anyone ever heard of a corn kind of...hickuping after a shed?? when i uncoverd him he seemed to hikup a few times. I hope its not...but i know this may be the sign of a R.I but to make sure im not goin to spray his tank at all now until he is next in blue to keep the humidity a bit lower. if anyone has any experience of this please let me know.

All in all though, he seemed fine, tong flicking and a good shed!

thanks for everyones help over the last few days i know iv probably been a pain in the bum! lol like i sed if anyone has experience of ther corn 'hikuping' straight after a shed pleaqse let me know.

thanks guys
