just a quick question..
i was just asked about this breeding, so i put it into a programme and got all goldust motleys..
i didnt think this was right?, can someone who has done it let me know please?
i've done a bit of a search and not found anything concrete.
i am STILL studying the ultra gene despite having various snakes with the gene, and i simply didnt think this would be the right outcome?
if someone could confirm or correct i'd be greatful
thanks
Nige

just had this passed to me...
25% Butter motley (both parents hand over the amel and caramel, but no ultra)
50% Golddust Motley (One parent hands over amel, one hands over ultra, both hand over caramel)
25% Ultra Caramel ("ultra-amber" ?) Motley (Both parents hand over ultra and caramel, but no amel).
i didnt think the programme was right.. doh

Yeah Nige, the second one is right. Half goldust motleys, a quarter ultra caramel, and a quarter butter motley.

TBH unless you're particularly after breeding ultra caramels (for which you obviously need two parents with the ultra gene), you might as well breed each of the goldust motleys to butter motleys. That'd get you two clutches, each one being half butter motley and half goldust motley, instead of just the one clutch of half goldust mots.

i know that butter to goldust gives 50% of each, i knew that much.. i just had someone enquiring really and didnt know exactly how to answer.
i have kept back a lot of female butters of various patterns for this exact reason myself.

Well the way you need to think of a GoldDust Motley is that it is a Caramel Motley heterozygous for both Ultra and Amelanism. Kind of.... ;) The difference is that none of the babies can be any of the following:

Homozygous for both Ultra and Amelanism
Homozygous for Ultra and het Amelanism
Homozygous for Amelanism and het Ultra

The rest is EASY! :crazy02:
