Gourmet Rodent: Review

Gourmet Rodent supplies Petco. Their facility is eight miles from my house. Since The Mouse Factory has been out of adults the last two times I called, I had to find another source. Local pick up of 100 mice or more lets me save shipping _and_ the $5 box charge. My 50 adults and 50 weanlings cost $63. Shipped from TMF that would have been $98. So how do they compare?

Here is the open box, with some sort of sheet fiberglass-like insulation and unwrapped dry ice, two substantial chunks.

Gourmet Rodent is, BTW one of the largest pet snake breeders in the US. At Daytona, they had a lot of paradox corn adults on display, which would inevitably turn up when breeding such large numbers.

The mice are packed in plastic bags, not vacuum-packed, 50 to a bag. They are relatively clean with a very small amount of bedding and poo, and smell mousey.

For new people: This is one way to store mice in your freezer and not disturb other people or take up a lot of room. I pack them in ziplocks with the size marked on the bag, squeeze all the air out of the bags and store in Fresher Longer storage containers, from Linens N Things. I have one big container for the adult snakes which holds adults, weanlings, hoppers and rat pinks, and one small container for the babies which holds various sizes of pinks and fuzzies.

The boxes take up hardly any room at all in the freezer.
