Great Deal at Reptile Show!!!

Penman6668

Dr. Jan Itor
I went to the reptile show today to get f/t mice. I was told before I left that I was not allowed to get anymore animals. I really had no intentions of getting anything but the f/t mice.

Well the lady who was selling the mice did not have the size I wanted but her husband was on his way in and was bringing more mice. She said if I could wait about 15 minutes, they would be there. I said no problem. I went off to see what else was there.

I spent a lot of time looking at breaded dragons and trying to convince myself that my wife would not notice if I brought it into the house. I decided I could not do it. Well the table behind them had two turtles. As I was looking at them, the guy said that he got rid of his pond and was not able to keep them anymore. He offered me a great deal. Both turtles and a 10 gallon tank for the baby turtle I have at home. I called my wife and asked her. (If you are married, you understand) She said go for it. I got a great deal so I went for it.

Here are pictures of the turtles. Their tank is not complete since I had to drop my car off for inspection so I decided to take a break and take a couple of pictures. The red eared slider got on the log as soon as I put it in the tank. I was not even able to put it in the right spot yet. Since it has been a long day for the turtles, I decided to leave him there (for now).

There names are Tuck (RES) and the other is One Eyed Wilma after One Eyed Willy on the Goonies. Yes she only has one eye. Goonies is a great movie.

This is a great excuse to get the pond I always wanted.

Wow that's good stuff. I have no idea how much a diamondback terrapin is worth, but it's gotta be more than $10. Those are some of the coolest-looking turtles, in my opinion.

So are you gonna make a pond?

Don't you just love going to shows for feeders and coming home with another pet. I did the same thing last weekend. Only ended up with another snake...Great pickup!

I love terrapins... That RES is lovely but looks a little skinny. My boys ate me out of house and home... £3 on prawns EVERYDAY! Little fatties :)

Great pickups. But now you have taken up snake space with water and turtles and stuff!

Actually that tank had fish in it. I had to move them. So I really just traded space.

The RES eat like crazy yesterday.

Nice additions and great price too!

In our household, I'm the one typically begging my husband to bring home "Just one more". :grin01:

Is that really a Diamondback? I thought they were more woodland/terrestrial.

Glad they found a good home with you. Water turtles seem like a lot of work. More power to you!

It is a diamondback. I did something I preach against, I got her without knowing anything about her. I have been craming for the last 24 hours.

Update

Well after three days, they already eat 1 dozen goldfish and are working on the next 2 dozen. I do not know if they are just hungry or pigs who eat nonstop. I think that they are pigs.

I almost have the tank done. I have two powerheads in the tank now. I have a couple different filters in the house, (many years of having fish), I just have to find them so I put a better filter in there. I was going to make a platform for them today but the power in the house has been out most of the day and just came back on. Yes the first thing I did was come here. Hopefully tomorrow or Thursday I can get the platform built and then I can add more water for them.

In the time it took me to type this, they ate a dozen fish.
