Great herping day

[Marcel Poots]

This is the winter stay for the grasssnakes in Holland. They hibernate between the rocks far beneath the surface. There is no food there but they escape the freezing this way.

And this is a summer area. Here they can catch food such as frogs and toads and fish.

Today I spotted 11 grass snakes at the winterstays:

Great find Marcel. I would say you had a very good day, 11 snakes, good day indeed. It is still way to cold for us to find anything around here. Maybe another month or two. Great Pictures.

This morning it froze 2 degrees celcius. When I found the snakes today it was only 11 degrees celcius. I was well dressed with a winter jacket

Yes, very friendly snakes. I have captured many. Maybe as much as 50 - 70. Only one or two bit me.

Right now I think it is too boring for him. I walked 4 and a half hour to see these 11 snakes. Jesse is 5 years old. Maybe over 5 years or so
