Hatchling not feeding. When does it become a concern?

I recently got 4 babies from Serpenco and my candycane hasn't shown any interest in eating. The other 3 have all taken a pinkie. I've tried leaving it with her alone for a couple of hours. I've tried the hand feed method mentioned in "the corn snake manual". She just doesn't seem interested in it.

My questions are:

1. When should I start being concerned that she is not eating?

2. Any other suggestions to get her interested in eating?


Any help would be appreciated.

I have the same problem with 4 corn snakes from SMR. The ghost, motley sunglow and hypo ate, while the bloodred did not. I've had them 10 days now and the bloodred is driving me crazy.

I know a petstore near here that sells live pinkies. I may try that Wednesday when they get their shipment in. Otherwise I am going to try dipping them in chicken broth. I heard that works well.
 
err...

there are a dozen threads on the subject under "feeding & health issues". I'd suggest deli cup, braining, live, and scenting before tease-feeding. Much more likely to work. Also, neither of you are in a danger zone whatsoever, YET. Try putting them in a small deli cup with food first, and work down the list from there. And search some old threads in this forum...
 
No offense, but ten days is like a drop in the bucket, and nothing to worry about. Heck sometimes it takes them two weeks just to get used to the new enviroment, let alone eat.

I would stop trying tricks at this point and leave her TOTALLY alone for a week. If you have only had them for ten days and tried a few tricks, that is a little too much "bugging" Anyways leave them alone for a full week, no handling or feeding attempts. Place pinkies in their enclosures and leave over night. try a brained F/T pinky or a live one.

Enclosures need to be tight fitting, and very secure. Open spaces, large tanks won't help out non-feeders at all. Just some suggestions! :D Not sure what you are keeping them in.

Ha! Bmm, you've done it again!

I just wrote a long text (in much more detail while over-analyzing everything) and there you go! Basically saying the same thing much more succinctly and not taking up a half-page! :(
 
I know it's hard.....its really worrisome but think of it this way....a little hatchling out in the wild just born...has no clue what the first meal might be and it could take months...and it could survive this. They are made for periods of no food. And also remember, each baby does have a yolk sac it can live on for at least a tiny while. :D

I myself had one hatchling out of 19 that refused everything for a month and a week. Finally when all the "leave him alone" tricks and live feeders wore out I just pestered him with a live pinky and he struck, its not common that works though but I do understand your worry!
