Have become a snake person

Well yesterday I got a call from a friend of sorts in Houston asking me to pick up a free cornsnake she had found on Austin Clist. She asked if I would keep it a few days till she could make the trip up to get it.... So I make arrangements to pick it up today, get the snake, call the friend..... she no longer wants the snake...

So it looks like I have a snake now!

Rosie is an unxexed 11 yr old corn that has been with this family since she was a baby. Son is now in college and no longer interested in his childhood pet :(
From what I read up about corns last night it looks like they have been taking good care of it (although it was on pine shavings).
Eats frozen/thawed mice, friendly to handle.

I have in in a 10g on aspen with a hide log and a bath. My house is currently reading ambiant temps between 80-85F, so I don't think it needs supplemental heat at the moment.
When I have surgery and get back to work I will try and pick up a 20L for it.

After a quick bath to de-poop (it pooped all over the pillowcase), weighing (172g), fast photo shoot and an explore of the new tank, Rosie is happily coiled up in the hide :)

So folks... Any hints, tips, comments?
Any idea on what morph it is?

This is not my first reptile as I have 4 leo geckos too

I would add that I should have known she might flake... she initially told me it belonged to a friend and that she wanted me to keep it indefinitely..... silly gal... I would have picked it up anyway LOL

Yeah it definitely needs to be in something larger than a 10gal. 20L or bigger would be ideal. Just peruse the site and I'm sure you'll lean a lot.

Also, think about picking up a undertank heater when you get your new tank even though your house is warm. Belly heat is very beneficial to the snake's digestion.

Pretty snake! Welcome to the snake world! I am pretty new myself but going along with some research I have done (a lot of it on this site and some books I have read) once you get the bigger viv for it I would use that UTH. The snake needs to have a cooler side and a warmer side to help regulate its temp. Sad that after 11 years the family is getting rid of it. At least it is going to a good home! Good find!

Snake looks very on the thin side wht size mice was he being fed and how often? You shouldn't be able to see her spine protruding like that...my guess is they either underfed her or lately haven't been feeding her normally:(

I agree with Danielle, she looks far to thin!! At over 170 grams, she should be eating 20-30g of F/T mice or rat every 7-12 days. Because she is so underweight, I would be feeding it every 7 days as close to 30g as possible, my yearling (rest his sole-died of an unknown illness and heating error) was that weight!! I have another one here who is 2.5 years old and is very healthy looking only just over 3ft(yours is much longer) and weighs 249g check out her pics http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85938

Very pretty snake, needs to be fed more:cry: , good luck, welcome to the forum, as for what morph, I am not the best one to tell you that but my guess would be a butter? Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks guys.
I figured she was on the thin side when I picked her up.
I felt she was small for an 11 yr old.

From what they told me they fed her two days ago. Before that they told me they fed her every 2 weeks or so. They claimed to be feeding her adult mice.

I know it is advised to give them time to settle down before feeding. Would 4 days be about right? And then start her on adult mice and offer every week or so?
