Have some questions

Hello, I will be getting my first snake this April and just have a few questions to ensure my snake has a good home

How do you clean up after the snake after it goes to the bathroom?

I will be getting a hatchling in April, so how much of each size mouse should I order

Finally, what would be the best way to transport my snake during a 7 hour car ride?

Thanks in advance

I'll go for the first question: If you are using aspen as your substrate, you just pick out the poo by hand. With a hatchling, there will be barely any to find, anyway. (I have never found a poo from my 8/06 Inez...and I look!)

For the car ride, just be sure the temp of the car is in the correct range for the snake, about 70-75F. You can carry it in the deli cup it comes in. Don't leave it in a hot car- if you stop to eat, bring it in with you. Also take care not to chill it with AC.

Can't help you on how many pinks to order, but Inez is 7 months old and has just switched to fuzzies, and I fed her one pink every five days till she was over 16 grams, then she went right onto these small peach fuzzies I was getting, but now the small fuzzies are no longer available, so she is on double pinks at 23 grams. She is still on a five day schedule. To calculate the proper prey size, people generally go by the weight of the snake, not the length or age. An approximation is a prey that is one to one and a half the diameter of the snake.

Hi Relentless-

UTHs are generally listed by what size tank their intended for. A good rule of thumb is that you want the UTH to cover 1/3 to 1/2 of the tank. Some people like the Zoomed UTHs, others prefer different brands (I use Zoomed).

Good luck!
