Have you forgotten?

No, I haven't forgotten. Neither has my husband nor my children. My daughter was just turning 4 years old and my son was only 1 1/2 yrs old on 9/11. Yet they both can tell you what happened that day, can identify the Twin Towers in movies, can tell you who was responsible and that we've been fighting terrorism ever since.

I was at work on 9/11. I found it very strange when the radio was brought into the main room behind reception. Someone said that a plane flew into one of the Twin Towers. We continued working, but listened as well as the second plane hit the other tower, as the second tower fell, then the first. We heard bits about the pentagon and another plane. It wasn't until I got home that I was able to get the full story and finally view in almost disbelief the videos taken that horrible day. Listening to the radio at work seemed almost to be like another War of the Worlds...a hoax. But I can never forget the images.

I don't listen to country so I had to ask my wife when that song came out. She said in 2001. If that's the case, WOW. I thought maybe that song was fairly new. I haven't forgotten and will never forget. I just started 3rd shift. I was sleeping and my wife busts the bedroom door open yelling "WERE UNDER ATTACK". Talk about an abrupt awakening. I was so freaked out. I thought the attacks were the first wave of an all out invasion, Red Dawn style.

A couple days later at work an old man told me that everyone would forget about it and move on. I was really thrown off guard and told him no way. He told me that as soon as our first soldiers died in combat people would turn on the government for putting them in harms way. And if the government didn't bring them home they would turn on the soldiers on spit on them when they got home. I was shocked at his statement and said not after the 9/11 attacks. He told me thats what happened to him when he got back from Vietnam and it would happen again. I saddens me to say the old man is wiser than I gave him credit for back then.

Oh and I haven't forgotten about starvation, AIDS, homelessness or genocide either.
