Hay

Alex Dew

Corn and Bp Lover
Hey

Im using paper towels at the moment, but my neighbour has horses and Hay, so I was wondering if it would be ok to use hay as a substrait or just or my corn to bury in?

Alex

I'd think

you'd run the risk of your snake contracting parasites if you used hay as a substrate.

You're welcome!

I need to clarify myself...I am talking about external parasites (ticks, mites, etc.) when I say your snake may contract parasites if you use hay.

hey alex.

yes i agree wit corncrazy, and paper towel is the best i think its easy to clean and cheap.

cheers

Lots of critters in hay!

Not only external parasites, but the stuff just breeds micro-organisms that could cause other problems. Try this trick sometime. Take a small handful of hay and put it in some unchlorinated water. Put it in a window for ten days. It'll be teeming with organisms large enough to see with the naked eye. We did 'em in school- called a hay infusion. Besides, mold, fungi, and a whole host of things live in it. Newspaper is the choice of many.
