Heat Gradient

I have had my little Neo for 2 weeks and he seems to be doing great. He has eaten well both times with no apparent digestive problems. However, when I do feed him, and virtually all of the time I see him he stays at the cool end of the terrarium. The temp on the cool is 72-76 and the warm is 80-86 based on the inside stick-on thermometers that I have at a little below substrate level (about 1 inch of Aspen bedding). I use a Flexwatt heat tape and have it below the terrarium. Is there any reason I should be concerned, or is he going to the warm side when I dont see him... like at night.

I'm not 100% convinced that those stick on thermometers are 100% accurate, although they should give you a fair average temp. By your description, I am assuming that you have them placed on the sides of your tank. Since you have the heat tape placed on the bottom of your tank, and the thermometers are measuring the temp on the side, they may be giving you a lower reading than what may actually be felt by your snake, especially if your snake likes to bury itself into the aspen bedding. The temp reading may be more accurate for the top of the bedding, but the temp under the bedding is probably higher, and your snake finds it just right on the cooler side. When I set up the tank for my neice's new snake, I put the stick on thermometers directly on the bottom (inside) of the tank (although I didn't actually "stick" them on) to get the readings.

My stick-on thermometers never give the right temp if stuck on the side if you want a accurate temp put it where tour snake is going to sit. I have one about 6-7" from each end of the viv and in about the same from the front and this seems to give a pretty accurate reading of both ends.

As for him staying in the cool part my 2 are just the same, whenever I go in the room where their kept they are always down the cold end even after feeding, but when I sneak in there of a night with all the lights out there they are curled up together in the middle of the hot end.
