Heat Tape Question

Hello-

I'm going to be wiring a rack and had a question. I will be using 3" heat tape on part of the tubs and 11" heat tape on the others. All will be at the same temp, but do I need to different theromstats for each size heat tape or can I use the same one? Also, do you slide the buckets back and forth over the heat tape or protect it in some sort of way. Thanks.

Laura

You will need two separate thermostats. They are at different wattages so would be different temps if run by the same thermostat.

I only tape my heat down around the sides with foil tape leaving the middle exposed. And I've never had a problem. Others will cover it completely with foil tape as an added precaution.

I know many racks have space available for the heat tape. It depends on your heat tape. If the tub slides smoothly over it with no catches you should be fine to slide it back and forth.

As for using two different sizes you will likely need separate thermostats as the tubs with 11" tape will heat faster then those with 3" tape

That's what I kind of figured. Add that to the Ball Python that is also on the rack and I'll need 3 thermostats. :) Oh, well, it's all for the love of the snakes.
