Heat tape

I know i have herd this been discussed before but i just cant remember. Is heat tape safe to be up against wood. It would be samwitchted between ply wood and tile board and be hooked up to a rheostat or a thermostat. Would it be a fire hazard or safe?

If by "sandwiched" you mean between the back edge of a shelf that is perpendicular to the back of the rack then it is fairly safe.

If you mean between two parallel sheets of wood (with no ventilation) then it is not safe.
