Heating a deli cup????

I want to make a deli cup rack thing. How do you heat these things? I seen them at the lizard king some time ago and want to make one now.

I know that but how do I heat them? I want to make a deli display not a rack

A deli display? You need to explain what you want better.

Do you want to display beta fish? They can survive in a puddle, but I still think it's cruel to let them live in a deli cup.

Now SNAKES on the other hand... well... I'm cranky so I'm not even going to touch that one, but what exactly is it you're trying to do here? It sounds like you want to keep your hatchlings in deli cups...?????

reptile_addict, deli cup displays are generally meant to showcase hatchlings at shows. They have no heat in them (too small of a space for the reptiles to thermoregulate properly). Shows (at least all that I have been in) have rather warm temperatures so heating is not a worry.

addict,

I echo blckkat. You can't house your hatchlings for any extended period in Deli-cups. There's no room for a water dish, hide or a heat gradient.

I don't really understand if this is for your own personal housing, or if if it's a way to show off your hatchlings when you're trying to sell them. If it's to try to sell the hatchlings, then you would need to prop up a piece of wood that has round holes in it that the deli cups can fit into. It it's for housing purposes, I highly recommend you get a 12qt sterilite or something similar. Those can be heated on their own (using UTH's) or in a rack system of some sort.

I can understand if you just want a display for your hatchlings, but to house them in something that small would endanger their quality of life, and you may not have any hatchlings for that long housed in that method because they may not survive. I can understand that it a cheap method for temporary housing, but as everyone has previously said, there is no room for a water dish, a temperature gradient, etc. There are deli cups that are about 10" in diameter that would be a little more humane. I'm not sure where you can get them from because I have a local shop here supply me with them, but ther are large enough to hold water dishes, small hides, and are made of sturdy enough plastic to withstand being over heat tape as long as there is no direct contact.

If you want to make a rack system, my advice would to be making one that uses plastic shoeboxes. There is a reason that all of us have at one time utilized this meathod: it works, it provides our hatchlings with all that they need for a good quality of life, and is inexpensive. To do what you would like, even though I have no idea what your reasons for wanting to do it ARE, would be just this side of cruel. Remember that even though corns are very hardy animals, hatchlings are very delicate.

reptile_addict and or jake the snake is 14 years old. I highly doubt he is needing a deli cup show case to display or sell hatchlings.

Dand, I am sick of you. You know nothing about me. I have local breeders of corns and I am getting some hatchlings from them. For example Lizard king and husker exotics. Also some private breeders. I suggest you do some research to see if you think you know more about me than I do or anyone else here!!! I have dealt with more snakes in my 14 years of living than you did by the time you were my age. Maybe because you act like you are only 8 years old. I am getting so tired of this and I wish to not recieve anymore negative remarks. I started this thread with a question and then you come in with a rude remark saying " Heres an idea....... Decaf" which was totally off topic and rude to say the least. I was just trying to get people to picture my idea.

I won't say a word...

Ward, I think you were a little hard on the beaver.

Okay...I see this from both sides...the kid asked a simple question...I understood it from the beginning...and would have answered...if I hadn't just got here and found it already answered...

I feel everyone is a LITTLE too harsh with Jakey boy...I know he might have it coming...but don't beat the kid into a corner...he might see the light yet...

And Jakey/Addict...I definitely think that you have an attitude problem with many of the regulars on this site...I don't feel I am one of them...and personally haven't seen a lot of things that would warrant you being totally harrassed (I am sure it is there somewhere...DAND is a good guy...I can't imagine he would condemn you for nothing)...but your argumentative attitude...and promoting yourself as all knowledgable while asking simple husbandry questions 6 times a day makes you definitely suspect...

Nothing wrong with asking questions...but many of them are already asked...and have detailed threads involving the answers...search them...you aren't new here...you know how it works.

OK, a simple request I will list the problems I have with dand and he lists the things I did wrong and we can change our ways.

Things that bother me.
1. Just suggest that I stop doing something and don't critisize right off the bat.
2. Some thing my mom always tells me "If you can't say nuthin nice don't say nothing at all

I dunno, until you blew up at dand, I saw nothing wrong with his decaf comment. I thought he was just poking a little fun at you because you do have multiple threads going right now. As far as the age thing, I could care less. The question however is this: Are you asking about the rack for displaying hatchlings or for housing them? Age has nothing to do with whether on not you have bred corns and have hatchlings, so dand's comment on your age was a little below the belt. It's almost like someone calling me a smartass teenage punk when I offer advice and concerns (this really happened and I blew up big time). IF you are wanting to make a rack for display purposes, you need no heating element. Again, the shows are usually warm enough for the snake. BUT, and this is (until informed otherwise) and assumtion, you will be housing the snakes in the cups for an extended period of time and not trying to sell them, then you need to get containers big enough to fit water bowls and hides in. There is your simple answer. No, heating deli cup racks is not required, under the assumption you're using it to display for sale.

OK sorry for acting like that Dand. I have an anger problem and have a perscription for it. I just don'y need the rude remarks. Actually I changed my mind. I don't need the rack for anything but photo purposes.
