what do you guys recommend i use for heating, i cant find any place here that sells heating pads, and all the pet stores say to use a heating rock for the corn snake. thx for any replies

You can get heat mats online, I definately would steer clear of heat rocks as they can be very dangerous.

Yeah. No heat rocks. Your snake will slither on it. Then it will become warmer, and warmer and warmer till your snake gets burns. I use heat mats on one of my vivs. I place them under the viv. Not in them. And warm only half the cage so they can choose if they want floor heating or not :) There a few online stores that i know of sell them. There's probably one that ships to you.

At worst you can use a dome and a bulb until you get a heat mat of some sort. You can try Big Apple or some other online supply company if you can't find something locally. As others have said DON'T USE A HEAT ROCK.

i live in Laredo,TX its in the bottom of texas, its kinda small, it really sux here, but its the biggest import in tx (i think). but even tho ppl make a big deal about it, it really sux here and it hard to find things that you need. ive read a lot of places saying not to use heat rocks but the stores here keep insisting to use the rock. im going to order a heat pad online, but which is the best to get, where can i get it, and where should it be under or in the bottom of the tank. thx for all the help

I'd recommend calling the folks at The Bean Farm. They are extremely helpful and have good prices. When you talk to them, give them the size of the enclosure that you are using and they should hook you up.

As for as te location goes, different types of heat mats are installed in diffeent locations. The most common type goes under the tank's bottom. It should be placed under only one end, as opposed to the center of the tank. When you order it, ask them to talk you through the installation.

BTW, I'm from Austin and have been to Laredo many times

uhm cus u said "people (store clerks) insist on selling u the heating rocks......i went to an animal store and they had told me a python would be perfect for me, a beginner, with 3 little children...should i mention that the only snakes he sold were pythons? lol aint that something????
