Heatmat For Plastic Tubs ???

Hello guys

Would you advice a heatmat for platic tubs or would it get too hot and melt the plastic????

Thank you in advance

You have to use something to control the heat. If it's hot enough to melt the plastic it's MORE than hot enough to burn your snake. I don't think people use UTHs with plastic bins, but I know my UTHs get to 110F without something to control the heat. I use plug-in lamp dimmers, $10 or so at Home Depot. I would imagine that this would work with a plastic tub too.

I use UTHs on thermostats with bins occasionally (I only use them for quarantine and as hospital setups) and have never had a problem.

If the temp is correct for the Corns (88 degrees max) then it's nowhere near hot enough to melt the plastic. You do need some kind of controller to achieve this.

It's a must to control the heat. Heat for a corn is in the low 80s which that won't melt the plastic. No different than if you had the tub outside on a warm summer day.

YOU MUST CONTROL THE HEAT OR IT WILL HURT YOUR SNAKE.

That being said, NO it WILL NOT melt your plastic bins/tub/whatever.

Melting point of ABS plastic (which is what most injection molded plastic products are made of) is around 221 degrees F.

Yep - they'll be fine. If the UTHs are the same size and both bins are set up the same, you can probably use one thermostat to control both mats and save a bit of money.

Which brings me to another 2 questions

1. Do I put the UTH in the tub or under ?

2. How do I connect the stat to the UTH ??

Not done this before my current set up has no stat which I will be using 1 of these for the time being till I can afford another one (if need be) at the end of april which is when i will get the 2 other snakes but by the sounds of it I can hook 1 stat to 2 UTH's

1. Under the tub.

2. The stat will come with a 3-pin plug socket. You plug the mat into the socket on the stat, then plug the stat into the wall.

If connecting 2 mats, then buy one of those blocks that allows you to connect more than 1 plug into a socket. Plug the block into the stat socket, then plug both mats into the block.
