Hello from a first time snake owner, but a long time snake lover!

Hey all, I'm Natalie and I live in the UK. I acquired my first corn snake when I was 19, somewhat without permission I might add, but after loving snakes for as long as I can remember since being a very little girl, I couldn't set foot in a reptile shop without immediately wanting to buy a beautiful little snake of my own! So, one day I gave in and ended up with this little girl:

She was in a tub with a Carolina, and next to it she was so vivid I had to have her! I called her Tango because (Please excuse the bad humor) she literally looks as if she'd been Tango'd! I've had her a year and almost four months now, and so far she's been very healthy and a brilliant feeder. She's a curious and funny little thing, with seemingly limitless amounts of energy, so I'm very happy I have her. This is a recent-ish picture of her feeding, and I've always been curious to know if she's about the right size for her age?

Maybe I worry too much, I know the picture isn't ideal to show her size, but right now she's in her blue phase so I'm unable to get a really up to date one. :dunce:

Anyway, I'm very glad to have joined this site, as many people here seem very knowledgeable, kind and helpful, and believe me it's likely I'll have endless questions to come yet, especially as I'm considering breeding Tango at some point. I hope you can all bear with me and my first (and definately not last) snake!

Hi and welcome from another Brit.... great snake you have there. Everyone seems to like the amels. Must be the orange glow.
We all hope you enjoy your stay here and post more pics....... We like pics.

Thanks for the welcome guys, and it's always nice to come across another Brit on the internet! :) Ah, there's a lot of other morphs I like too, it's just a matter of affording them... and having enough space. I'll be sure to post some better pictures of my girl once she's shed!

Hey! Welcome to the Forum :) . Umm, I couldent help but notice that you have your snake on sand? Thats not the best substrate to use for corn snakes. Can you update us on how you have the enclosure set up? Beautiful snake, by the way.

Thanks so much everyone for the lovely compliments about Tango, and I'm glad to be here. :)

Actually, I know it looks a lot like sand, but it's really ground up walnut shells, it's what the guy from my reptile shop reccomended. When I first got her her starter tank came with wood chip, but one day she swallowed a piece with a pinkie and I was worried for her, it looked painful, so I switched to this over a year ago and she's been perfectly healthy so far. I admit I don't know the absolute perfect substrate for her, so if there's anything that would benefit her more then could anyone tell me?

Ooh. Somewhat without permission?
Welcome, Natalie. Nice snakey.
Aren't they cute? I think we get sucked-in by the big-eyed look on the little snakes. I bet if they had eyelids they wouldn't sell as well.

Errr, perhaps maybe totally without permission, as mum threatened to flush a snake down the toilet if I ever got one while living with her. :( But as I had already anticipated, as soon as she discovered a mysterious tank in my room she immediately wanted to handle Tango, and now loves her, calling herself Tango's 'grandmother'. Even if she hadn't taken a liking I still would've defended my little snakey with my life though. :D

I love snakes with a passion, the whole 'beautiful but deadly' thing really intrigues me, and baby corns are just made even cuter by the fact that their eyes look too big for their head. Some day I'd love to own a cobra, if I ever get experienced enough. :)

I say that aspen bedding is best for the snake. Spot cleaning is easy, and you have to change it out at least every month. I also think that any enclosure looks great with aspen bedding.

Tango is really bright! What a beauty. Ever notice that all of us n00bs get amels as our first cornsnakes? Anyway, welcome!

Haha, yeah, ever since I've had her when I've looked at other amels in the shops they seem so much paler! I unknowingly got quite lucky. :D Also as she's getting older she seems to keep having less and less white on her, I'll try and get a pic once she's shed. When I first got her I wasn't aware of how common amels are, I'm just a sucker for bright colours!
